Honestly, I have no idea why it's called Veritas, but I know it's the title of the first episode in season 5 :) None of the spoilers I acquired were confirmed by CBS, Alliance Atlantis or Bruckheimer Films. They were taken from early drafts of the script, and are subject to change between now and the air date.

What else can I say but enjoy!

Rain was pouring down in sheets, turning the highway into a slippery sheet of glassy black asphalt and basically halting the New Jersey traffic.

Why does it always rain? The man thought. That's so cliché.

This man had been stumbling along the edge of the rain-ridden highway for the better part of an hour now, with no one stopping to help him, despite all his yelling and arm waving.

Although dressed in a respectable, but wet, way, the man had a rather large goose egg appearing above and slightly behind his right temple, matching a gash above his right eye which poured blood down one side of his face.

This man was running for his life, and no one seemed to want to help him.

When Lauren Santana saw this dripping wet, dark-haired man at the side of the road, her first instinct was to drive by without a second look, but something compelled her to pull over and help him.

When her car stopped, she could only then get a good glance at the man's face and noticed the blood riveting down one side, diluted by the rain. She was immediately glad she pulled over and ran out of the car to his side.

"Oh my gosh, are you okay?" Lauren exclaimed worriedly.

"I'm fine. I just need to use your cell phone." The man's words were slightly slurred, and Lauren thought he was drunk until she saw the lump on the side of his head.

While she was digging through her purse, back at the car, she noticed the man start to sway, and he collapsed on the concrete before she could reach him. Lauren hurriedly checked for a pulse and was relieved to find it strong and steady.

She lifted one hand to wipe the water out of her eyes, and was surprised to find it clasping her phone.

After a hurried conversation with the 911 operator, Lauren thought she heard a slight moan come from the man and she tried to awaken him.

"Hey. Hey. Buddy. C'mon man. You gotta wake up. My name is Lauren Santana. Don't leave me hanging like that dude."

She kept up this frantic talk until she heard the faint wail of sirens in the distance. She suddenly remembered what was happening to her, and immediately regretted stopping to help the man.

She rushed back to her car, gunned the engine and was only about half a mile down the road when a multitude of bright lights and various emergency vehicles passed here.

She would never know the fate of that man. Never know his family, if he had one at all, but most importantly, never know that the man she helped was none other than the great Mac Taylor, NYPD detective.

I must admit. I'm a little nervous about this. It's only my second multi-chapter fic, and to write about something like this…..shudders But reviews help!!
