What's A Soul Mate?

Dan sat at the dinging table with his daughter Sophie who was twelve years old now. He and Phil adopted her when she was five.
They were doing some colouring while Phil was cooking or attempting to cook dinner. Dan smiled as he looked over to the kitchen which was open plan to the living room watching Phil. They had moved into a house not long before adopting Sophie.
"What's a soul mate?" Sophie suddenly asked. They had been talking about it in class at school that day.
Dan looked back to her with nothing but love and pride. She was very smart for someone her age and always asking questions which both Dan and Phil encouraged.
"It's a...well it's like a best friend but more." he started. It was very difficult to put into words what a soul mate was.
Whenever Dan looked at Phil he saw his soul mate. He couldn't ever live without Phil.
Phil had saved him from depression. He had been severely bullied in school and had developed bad depression and anxiety as a result he would regularly cut himself because this was the only pain he found that would stop him thinking of the taunts and beatings that he had every single day at school.
"It's the one person in the world who knows you better then anyone else." he continued thinking of all the times he had been scared and Phil had been there to protect him and comfort him. Even when they were in public around their YouTube fans and they were in public about their relationship, Phil was there ready and willing to do anything for Dan.
"It's someone who makes you a better person."
"Actually they don't make you a better person, you do that yourself. Because they inspire you." he said softly glancing back to Phil with such love in his eyes.
He remembered the first time he had made a YouTube video. Phil had encouraged him to try it out even though he as really nervous and sceptical about it.
"A soul mate is someone who you carry with you forever." he said running his finger along the gold wedding band he wore.
"It's the one person who...who knew you and accepted you and believed in you before anyone else did, or when no one else would." he said thinking back to when he had come out to his family. They had turned their backs on him and so had most of his friend from Manchester. He had thought his life over, the only person who didn't seem disgusted by the fact he was gay was Phil.
That night he had cried in Phil's arms who sat with holding him close never leaving his side. This night was the night that started the wonderful love they had today.
"And no matter what happens you'll always love them." he said looking back to Phil who was now with great care adding something to the pizza he was making.
"Nothing can ever change that." he said a small tier falling down his face. He got up silently and walked over to Phil hugging him from behind and kissed his neck. The warmth between them was something special.
Phil turned around to face Dan and seeing the tier he frowned and kissed it away before kissing Dan on the lips lovingly.
Sophie wasn't embarrassed to see her fathers kiss because she knew how much they loved each other. She was so grateful to be apart of the family and know that they loved her. After the pain she went through she was so glad they had found her.
They truly were each others soul mates.
