Levana trembled and pulled her disfigured hands towards her. This wasn't supposed to happen, she thought and a tear slid down her scarred face. I was supposed to be the best queen Luna had ever seen.
That's why she had gotten rid of Selene. Channary dying was merely an accident that worked in her favor. Then, after such a long time of being the "younger sister" she was finally queen. And for a while, Luna had never seen a better queen. But then Cinder just happened to pop up in the middle of the Commonwealth and ruined everything.
Levana's mind attempted to think of a way to remove Cinder from the throne while locked in her prison cell. But she ached so much that the only thing she could think about was not dying.
"I'm sorry." She spoke, her once silky voice was now cracking and crumbling. She began to think that she wasn't that great of a queen after all, that Channary was right. That she would never amount to nothing other than the younger deformed sister. "I'm sorry." She muttered again, this time choking out a sob. She wasn't even sure what she was apologizing for. She thought that Luna was prosper with her yet she had gotten thrown in prison for treason. She was saying sorry to Luna, sorry to all the people she hurt. Sorry to Winter and to Evret. Sorry to Selene. Sorry to herself.
Levana came to this realization as she curled herself into a ball on the floor of her cell. This was it, all her work and life of being the reject princess had led up to this, dying on the floor of a prison cell. Levana blinked. Her pale eyes catching the flickering of a flame. Luna wasn't supposed to have fire. Not unless it was an emergency. But the flickering continued and Levana realized what she wanted to do. She heaved herself off of the cold concrete floor and stumbled toward the flame. She held out her hand to the fire, as if it were an old friend. The sleeve of her gown caught aflame and she suddenly felt warmth that she hadn't felt in such a long time. She returned to the floor and curled into a ball, letting the overwhelming warmth lull her to sleep.
The last thing she remembered was smiling because she had never been so happy in her entire life.
So last week I finished Fairest which is Levana's story and I realized that she isn't actually a bad person, just mislead. I hope you guys enjoy, I finally respect Levana as a villain and though I don't think her demise will turn out like this, it is sure to finally change her perspective on her actions.
