A/N: This little ficlet was reposted because I changed some things in it. Hope you still like it.
Disclaimer: I do not own Batman or any other characters created by Bob Kane. I am simply borrowing them for entertainment purposes.
A well dressed man walks alone down an empty street in a poverty-stricken neighborhood. His eyes shift in all directions to ensure his solitude. When the coast is clear, he quickly turns down a deserted alley. He moves fast but when he reaches his destination, he freezes. The cold night air sends shivers down his spine. The tears that he wants to cry do not come. Instead, he closes his eyes as the memory overwhelms him.
He can see them.
Bang…
He can hear them.
Bang...
He can feel only one thing…loneliness.
Silence. He hears nothing and is afraid. He's left alone; spared by the one who killed them dead. No, not dead; murdered in front of innocent eyes.
Bitter sweet tears start to fall and he can still smell the scent of his mother's sweet perfume. He remembers how it lingered on his coat from the last time she hugged him. He feels his father's reassuring pat on the back. But these memories are pushed aside as he hears his mother scream. It bounces off the exterior walls of the alleyway, smacking him in the face, as fear grips his heart again.
The night comes and goes quickly every year. The events of that night went just as fast. He had no time to react. By the time anyone knew what was going on, it was too late. They were gone and he was alone.
But now, it's different. Everything is different.
Now, he is just one more lost soul.
Please let me know what you think. I know I changed it and I'd like to know if you like what I've done with it. D
