"But mama, i don't WANT to," Lorrie said, running past me. I chased her around the entire apartment before i just completely gave up. I sighed loudly as I threw the ponytail aside.
"It's fine, baby, you look fine the way you are. Just please go put your shoes on so we won't be late."
"I'm sorry mama, i will."
I jogged into the bathroom and fixed my make-up. You could say i don't look like your average mother. A torn band shirt, ripped jeans, beat up Chuck Taylors, a nose ring, tattoos here and there, and at the age of 22. I was the unfortunate one, getting pregnant and being left in a house i couldn't even afford, and even though i dreaded it, i asked my mother for help, and here i am. Working two jobs as a Mystery Shopper and clothing designer. Which i stay home for both, so i don't have to waste money on a daycare.
"Alright babe, lets get going," i said, opening the front door and grabbing my jacket and keys. We finally pulled up to the school and wlaked in, trying to find a little map on the walls.
"Do you need help finding anything," a woman said from behind me. I jumped and turned around, seeing a plump, old woman, with long, gray hair and glasses. She couldn't have been any taller than my upper chest. She smiled.
"Yeah, could you tell me where the 1st grade area is?"
"Actually, i'm the teacher, so just follow me. Is that your sister?"
"She's my daughter. I had her when I was 17, it was kind of an accidental thing," I said, making little hand gestures. She just smiled warmly.
"Well that's one thing we do have in common."
We walked into a second story classroom, and Lorrie ran to the chalk board, introducing herself to a boy, and taking a piece of chalk from his hand. I just laughed and watched.
"Cute kid," someone said next to me. I turned and saw a man, around 23 or 24, with long, bright blue and blond hair. His facial hair was a bit different, darker, and it came up from his neck in spike-like strips. He had on a plain black Pearl Jam shirt with black shorts and black Nikes, and he was very tan. His eyes were a sparkling green, and his smile was breath taking.
"Hey, aren't you-"
"Yeah, that's me," he said, laughing. I was astonished. I never expected to see him here.
"Me and my daughter watch you and your brother all the time!"
He looked at me funny, in almost disbelief.
"Your daughter? You seem so young, though!"
"Everyone says that. Say, would you like to get a cup of coffee? I'm literally about to fall asleep standing up," i said, giggling. He agreed, and i called Lorrie over to me. After i explained where i was headed, she agreed and ran off to play with her new friends. We both climbed into the car, and i had a strange feeling in the pit of my stomach. I felt that i had stepped into the car with the man of my dreams.
