I. What If This Storm Ends?
"I'm scared."
Draco meets her eyes. "As is your right."
"Not of him," answers Ginny impatiently. "What if…"
He lifts her chin. "What if what?"
"What if we get through this and you aren't you anymore?" She looks away because she's clearly been thinking about it and is embarrassed to share. "What if you're back to who you were?"
"You know I've changed, Ginny." He places a hand on her cheek. "I've seen the other side, and I'm never going back. I swear it to you."
He places his lips against hers, bittersweet and with all the taste of parting.
What if this storm ends
And I don't see you
As you are now
Ever again?
II. The Sunlight Through The Flags
Ginny jumps when someone's hand meets her shoulder in the heat of battle, and she very nearly is hit by a curse. She turns to tell the intruder off, only to discover Draco, a desperate look on his face.
"Draco," she breathes, and he immediately takes her hand, hides her behind a pile of stone, and kisses her fiercely and repeatedly.
He finally rests his forehead against hers, and she breathes again. "What's wrong?" she mutters.
He meets her eyes. "I love you."
She blinks before answering. "I love you, too."
It's the first time they've ever said so aloud.
Worry not everything is sound
This is the safest place you've found
The only noise beating out is ours
Lacing our tea from honey jars
III. Daybreak
After Harry narrowly defeats Voldemort, Ginny searches everywhere for Draco, and she can see his parents are following her, apparently knowing she'll lead them to him. She wonders, briefly, how only they three have noticed his absence…
She finds him, finally, just outside the Great Hall, among the injured. At the sight of his body, broken, battered and bruised, her throat catches and it takes her a moment to stop a threatening tear.
He is alive, she reminds herself.
She all but runs to his side, where he wakes and glances at her through unfocused eyes.
"Ginny?" he asks, his voice low.
"Yes," she affirms.
"Thank you," he says.
She shakes her head. "For what? You've more damage than I've seen on anyone else, and I couldn't find you after you left…" She looks away, determined to forget.
"You saved me," he answers.
She blinks, then looks again at his battered form. Her lips are to form a reply when she realizes that he isn't speaking of that night, alone.
She bites her lip to chase away another tear. "You're welcome."
He kisses her, and their foreheads meet so they can pretend, temporarily, that they are alone in the world.
And in the middle of the flood I felt my worth
When you held on to me like I was your little life raft
Please know, that you were mine as well
