I Wish

"The lights fade and start to go out; one by one. Then the sun falls over the sea, almost as if it was on fire..."

Tidus paused to look at Yuna, who had the pained look of someone trying to imagine something that they knew, deep down they would never see.

"It sounds so beautiful..." Yuna sighed, continuing to float on her back in the shimmering depths of Lake Macalania.

"I wish I could go see it some day..." She whispered.

"Hey, well, we can once we defeat Sin. When I go home to my Zanarkand, you can! You can come with me, Yuna!"

"Yeah and I could watch you play Blitzball! And I could stand in the crowd and cheer and cheer until I can't cheer anymore!"

"Yeah!!" The look of extreme excitement and enthusiasm on Tidus' face, changed so quickly to one of shock and pain as he saw Yuna, waist deep in water, her semi-wet brown hair twinkling under the stars, sobbing very quietly and very gently.

"Yuna…" He said as he walked towards her, pulling her body close to his and wrapping his arms around her comfortingly.

"I can't…I just…Can't…" She cried.

"Of course you can. I'm not gonna let you go, Yuna. We're going to Zanarkand together, no matter what. I promise."

Yuna looked up at him and smiled. "Really?"

"No doubt about it." He replied with a compassionate tone in his voice and softly kissed her on the forehead.

The pair stood huddled together for a moment and a strangely coloured fog began to rise from the water.

"Fog? That's extremely unusual considering it's in the middle of summer…" Yuna said.

"Unless it isn't fog…"

"Sin's toxin! Run!"

But before either of them had the chance to move, the toxin had already entered their bodies and started to weave its smothering blanket of death. Yuna collapsed limply in Tidus' arms.

"Yuna!" He yelled but quickly after doing so, got dragged downwards into the water. "I wish…I could be with you…one last time."
