This is a little side project I've wanted to do for a while now. I wish we could have seen what the tragedy of losing Azura was like for her potential husbands. We only really get Corrin's point of view...

First up - Xander.

Xander stared at the candle flame - through the flame, rather. In the dancing light, he could see a beautiful woman dressed in dark colors, dancing wildly. Her long sky-blue tresses whirled about her, mingling with the water trailing from her fingers.

Had she known all that she would suffer? She'd never told him.

He loved her bravery. She'd given up any chance to be among people who accepted her in order to wed him. He'd vowed that he would live every day to be worthy of her sacrifice.

He wished that she would have leaned on him and allowed him to support and protect her. But she stayed silent about her painful past and her current fears. The only person she seemed to feel comfortable confiding in was Corrin.

That had hurt.

She'd been destroyed by this war. He could see it on her pale face before she'd disappeared for good. He'd felt it in her tense form lying beside him at night. He'd heard it in her desperate songs on the field of battle.

And he'd been helpless to stop it. He couldn't risk division in the army at such a time. Not when Nohr was in such critical condition, with people starving to death daily.

In the end, he'd been the one who killed her.

He reached out and pinched out the flame. The burn felt good. He deserved it for failing to be the man she should have had, just like he'd failed to be the brother he was supposed to be when she'd been taken to Hoshido all those years ago.

But then what had she meant on their last night together when she'd thanked him for being just what she needed?

"Azura?"

"Hm?"

"What do you mean? Have you ever felt that I could understand you and how you feel? I've tried…but I don't know if I've ever been what you need…"

"I… I guess I'm like the ocean's gray waves. Circumstances beyond my control have always thrown me around. But ever since I've been with you, I've known that I always have a shore to return to, no matter where life takes me."

But now she had gone to a place beyond the shore.

Next will be Leo. I'll be going through every man she can marry, and I might do a chapter for Shigure's feelings as well.

Would you be so kind as to review?
