It was a fact, and an undeniable one at that, that his trusted subordinate had something for Rukia Kuchiki. Now Aizen wasn't an unreasonable man. He knew the history of the rather smallish, unassuming girl maybe as well as Gin. Her early years in the Rukongai, friendship to one of the three he was cultivating for future use only made the girl somewhat more interesting to his eyes behind his false image.
People especially Shinigami valued innocuous, innocent-seeming souls.
Little Rukia Kuchiki was no exception.
From the beginning she revealed intense aversion to Gin, avoiding crossing his path and above all being alone with him. Aizen knew Gin was mildly hurt by this behavior, even if the end result simply made his subordinate desire the girl all the more.
Which was ridiculous as the more Gin pursued her, the further lengths she took to avoid him.
Like a fox hunting the rabbit, sometimes Gin would fondly say.
Aizen said nothing, just smiled. It would do no good, he knew, to dissuade Gin from his fatal attraction. The silver-haired man was an enigma to all save for Sosuke Aizen himself.
What Gin wanted, he pursued until it lay lifeless within the coils of his twisted passion.
Aizen was more subtle.
He loved nothing yet desired everything.
Sosuke knew Rukia Kuchiki would submit to kind words and gentle smiles for her shortcomings. Of which he constantly assured her made no difference to him.
She was perfect, a creature without flaw.
A soft pink stealing onto her cheeks, a tiny glow in her eyes that let him know he was close.
There was no frailty in her being, why just look at the beauty of her Zanpaku-to release!
His quiet, insistent voice was filling her soul with happiness, ending her dark thoughts and doubts. Closer.
He could protect her from Ichimaru-taichou.
Rukia Kuchiki froze at the sound of his subordinate's name. "Protect me...Aizen-taichou, sir?"
Sosuke relished the tremulous trust in her large bluish-violet eyes. He gave her the smile she knew well, "yes, just come..." his hand extended, breaking the barriers of societal edict.
Rukia's hesitation was charming to see, even more when her tiny hand was laid in his, her eyes lifting to his face. The uncertainty had fled with the fear.
Aizen gently clasped her hand as if she was his most treasured possession.
And lead her to a room within his own Division where he knew they wouldn't be disturbed. Hinamori had been ordered to keep the rest of the officers away. She would. Such an obedient girl.
(*~*) Later... (*~*)
"...ah, Gin." In the dimness of the room, Sosuke could see the slim, gaunt outline of his subordinate in the shadows. Rukia moaned softly in the haze of after-sex induced sleep, turning over in the half-cradle of his arm, snuggling closer to his warmth and away from the piercing red slits gleaming in the darkness. "I presume you saw everything."
His subordinate's animosity was palpable as much as the slightest rising of Aizen's reiatsu to remind Gin of whom held the reins in their relationship.
The red disappeared, Gin's eyes closed. "I did."
Sosuke allowed a small smile to curve his lips. The lips Rukia had kissed. "And? What is your purpose here?"
"Why, nothing!" Gin smiled as well, but was decidedly less eager than before. "I merely wished..." Gin's shadow dipped and melted into an obeisant bow, "to congratulate you on your conquest."
The malevolence was well-masked, but to Sosuke whom knew the man, it was all a mockery of approbation. Like all little boys whom had their favorite playthings taken from them, Gin was acting infantile or perhaps... "Accepted. You may go, Gin." Aizen savored the loss of Gin's smile. No matter how quickly it may have reappeared to indicate the silver-haired Shinigami found nothing to resent in this abrupt dismissal.
"As you wish, Aizen-sama." Gin simply evaporated into the darkness.
Aizen didn't trouble himself to find out where his subordinate had gone to.
Not when it was Rukia awakening and looking up into his eyes with such trust and shyly asking if he could make love to her again. Sosuke trailed his hand through her tousled hair, smiling gently at her eagerness, then slipped his hand to the side, dipping his fingers around the hilt of his Zanpaku-to. "Scatter..." Aizen said still smiling, "Kyokasuigetsu."
Rukia Kuchiki would remember nothing of their conversations, nor night together; she would leave for the living world a week later under his subtle manipulation of Ukitake. Where she would meet Ichigo Kurosaki and his plans would be brought to fruition.
Even so. Aizen knew he would remember her simple trust.
And Gin would remember his superior taking what he wanted.
