I do not own Rizzoli & Isles. I am, however, lodging my protest about something.
Why Jasey Can't Be
I was horrified by the behavior shown by the character of Casey. I hope someone at TNT reads this. If not, then Fanfic readers, please do.
When anyone says, "If you don't XYZ, I will ABC" and ABC is something that is dangerous or potentially so to them or others? That is red-flag classic warning sign of an abuser. Yes, I said ABUSER.
So far, let's sum up. He's abandoned her for years. Lied to her about an injury. Strung her along about his surgery. Abandoned her again. Strung her along some more. And now, having had all of this his own way, he says, essentially, "Marry me or I go back to a war zone that will probably kill me."
That is not love. That is emotional abuse. It is a red flag for the kind of emotional abuse that then leads to isolating someone from their family and friends, the precursor to physical abuse. It is a red flag for the kind of controlling personality that throws out your things without consulting you first (Marmite, anyone?). I know this sort of personality. I survived it because I ran for my life after being left for dead, and that is not exaggeration or a joke. I have severe PTSD from that kind of personality being in my life. So yeah, I have my issues-I admit it-but that doesn't make me wrong about this.
If you "ship" Jasey, consider what I'm saying. Look at the warning signs of an abuser. (Google if you like.) Casey is not simply wrong for Jane because she turned weepy and indecisive. He's wrong for anyone because he tries to run their lives via promises, lies, and threats. And yes, that ultimatum is a *threat*, same as saying, "Marry me or I shoot myself" or "If you don't marry me, I will jump off a cliff."
I don't ship Rizzles, but I'll be darned if I'll watch a show where a guy like that is a romantic lead. Bye-bye, R&I. Nice knowing you.
