A FATHER'S CONCERN
"A while ago she went out with her friends. Can you believe that? She has friends now! I mean, that's more normal than staying in the firing range the whole day. Or locking herself up in the library."
They were lying face-to-face on a king-sized bed now, their daughter snoozing between them. Ada was stroking their little angel's ebony hair, silently musing how her genes dominated Leon's. Her ceramic skin, her long legs, her cat-eyes, her coy personality and everything... it's amazing how their daughter got all of them. All Little Andie got from her father was her azure eyes, naughty grin, and curiosity. She's only 14 years old, but the signs of her being a stunning heartbreaker someday are now clearly visible.
Their daughter grew up with no interest in socializing. She can rarely be seen hanging out with a friend, except for her childhood friend, Julian Redfield. And where do they always hang out? Yup, you guessed it right. In a firing range. And that is more than enough reason why her parents should be worried.
Ada matched her husband's smile. "Look at her, she's so grown up. Few years from now, she would not want to sleep on her parent's bed like this anymore."
Leon's smile slowly faded into a frown. "They grow up really fast..."
"They do." Her smile turned into a smirk. "What would you do if someone starts to court her?"
His face went serious. "I've got guns and ammos."
She laughed out loud.
"What?" Leon's voice lowered when Andie stirred but did not wake up. "I don't think it's okay if she dates. Why, did she mention anything about it?"
"None, as of now. But that's normal, especially in that age. Plus your daughter's beautiful, Leon." She winked and continued stroking Andie's hair.
Leon's forehead furrowed. "I think I like it more when she was still intimidating and aloof."
It was her turn to frown. "Shut up."
"After taking care of her, some guy would just snatch her away. That sucks. I haven't thought about that. How do dads deal with that?"
She muffled her laughter with a pillow.
Leon continued, "I can't imagine her getting married. I can't allow that, I think."
She rolled her eyes. "Dear, having a boyfriend doesn't mean you have to marry him right away."
"If her boyfriend doesn't have any plans of marrying her, then I wouldn't allow her to have a boyfriend at all."
"Then it was like pushing her to get married right away."
"No, it's not like that," his eyes went to the ceiling, worry written all over his face, "I don't think I like the boys of her generation. One time I was scanning through the channels and I saw a video on MTV by... whatshisname, Snoop Dogg, or whatzit. I can't believe it. Those rappers call women 'bitches' and 'hos,' and the women dance to that. During our time, it's not like that."
She chuckled and stared at her daughter's face lovingly. "She's a smart kid, honey. I'm pretty sure she will find someone special like herself. Don't ever doubt that. She's my daughter." She winked again.
He also stroked Andie's hair gently. "She better. Like what I've said, I've got guns and ammos."
She laughed again, this time more louder than the first.
Andie stirred, half-opened her eyes and asked with a groggy voice, "What are you guys laughing about?"
"Nothing, sweetheart. Go back to sleep."
