Kid coughed harshly and groaned. It wasn't often that he was sick and even less often that his illness was accompanied by a fever. He leaned back against his pillows and closed his eyes. He Liz and Patty would be looking in on him soon and if he was being honest, he appreciated their efforts.

A soft knock caused him to slowly open his eyes again. Kid smiled faintly as the giraffe's head appeared followed by the rest of the animal and Patty.

"Hi Kid, I just wanted to see how you're feeling. Any better?" She asked walking over to his bed.

"Not yet, but it's only been a day." When it was just the three of them, Kid would show a softer side, Patty bowed her head.

"I hope you feel better soon. My giraffe makes me feel better, I thought maybe it might help you too." She sat the animal on the bed beside her Meister.

"Thank you." Kid said gently. The young reaper had become quite fond of his weapons and saw Patty as a little sister.

Patty had a tendency to worry about Kid when he wasn't feeling well, his illness seemed to cause her to feel a certain amount of fear. Kid knew what was coming next, it had happened the day before when Kid decided not to go to school. Patty had become alarmed.

"You're really sick, it's not just about your symmetry-"

"I'm afraid not, but this happens sometimes, I just need to rest for a day or two and I'll be fine."He told her. It did little to calm her, even Liz had difficulty with the task. Kid decided to make the day seem as normal as possible to calm patty's fears.

Kid returned to his room and had dressed himself for the day then resumed his normal routine. His plan had worked for a short time, by mid-afternoon, Kid was slowing down and his fever worsened. Shortly after, the reaper retreated to his bed with Liz's help. He was dizzy and feeling as if he would vomit. He knew his fever had spiked ,he could feel the heat adding to his discomfort.

Liz had helped him into bed and placed a cool cloth on his head.

"Just rest Kid, and thanks for what you did for Patty. If you need anything, just call." He fully intended to get out of bed the following morning but he had no energy and had no will to leave the comfort of his bed.

Now he saw what his decision had led to.

"Patty, you don't have to be so worried about me, the worst thing it could be is the flu and that's not going to hurt me. It'll just keep me in bed until I feel better."

"But- it scares me because your fever is high and you - I don't want to lose you." She sobbed.

"You won't. I'm not going to leave you, I promise." Kid sat up and invited her to sit on the edge of the bed.

"It'll be okay Patty, I'm right here."

"You're all we have Kid, we love you." I smile.

"I love you too, there's nothing to worry about." Kid coughed hard into his fist, the cough caused a sharp pain to hit him in his ribs and chest, his nausea returned seconds later.

"Kid, are you okay?" Kid nodded.

"Lay down, that should help you." Patty gently placed a hand on his shoulders and leaned him back down.

"Don't worry Kid, you rest and we'll make sure you get better, I won't let anything happen to you, you're our family."

"I'm not worried at all, I have you and Liz to take care of me , as long as I have you two, everything will be just fine." Patty dipped a cloth into the bowl of cool water and after squeezing out the extra water, she carefully laid it on his forehead. Kid sighed in relief. The cool felt good against his heated skin.

"Thank you Patty, that feels better." Patty grinned.

"Any thing else you need we'll be here. We'll bring you something to eat later, i know you don't feel good but you have to try so you can keep your strength up." As kid listened to her words, he could only think how lucky he was to have the love of his family.
