Pregnant
Lee saw the word appear in swirling ink on his chest, just beneath his collarbone. He squinted, tugging at his grey pyjama top and trying to read the word upside down.
"Ang, could you for once, neaten your handwriting even a little bit," he grumbled, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. She didn't reply, still out cold after yet another long night shift.
It had been a while since either of them had had an event appear. Nerves filtered through Lee's veins. After her promotion several weeks ago to Head Chef at - what he considered to be - the best restaurant in London, neither he nor his partner had had any words appear.
Before that, it had been his Father's death he had woken up too. Lurching towards the bathroom, Lee steeled himself for potential tragedy. He twisted the cool metal of his wedding ring out of habit to try and calm himself, wincing at the sudden brightness which assaulted his eyes when he flicked the bathroom lights on.
His soulmate's handwriting was still difficult to read, now backwards in the mirror. Slowly Lee sounded out each letter, trying to string them together. He froze, body tingling.
"Ang, baby, wake up!" his voice came out loud, shaking with excitement.
She was in the bathroom almost instantaneously, hair all over the place and wand was drawn. Lee was reminded forcefully of how much he adored her. She was the epitome of divine.
Her eyes fell to the script on his chest and then she was tearing her pyjama top off, desperately searching for a word in white ink. It was printed down her side and they both traced the word reverently. Then he was kissing her and she was laughing infectiously, her eyes filled with tears. Lee couldn't stop grinning as he picked her up, spinning her around.
"We're going to have a baby!" Angelina said, repeating the words until she was shouting and Lee was laughing, sure that he'd never felt such euphoria and wouldn't ever again.
"We're going to have a baby!"
