Scavengers
'Scavengers', was the thought of a cloaked stranger shrouded in the darkness and light of the night and the faint glow of the moon, 'That's all you can be now'. The stranger was stationed atop a half-destroyed, apartment building that appeared to have more gaps in walls than windows. The building appeared to have appeared out of a young Child's haunted house nightmare.
The stranger was sat against a broken wall with one leg hanging off the ledge of the roof, his other was pressed against him. The only distinguishable characteristics of the shadow atop the broken building was that their physique was that of a lean, tall male, and the piercing emerald green eyes the man possessed, that held no emotion and seemed to contain a raging storm, the rest of his face was over shadowed by the hood of his cloak. The man's emerald gaze seemed to only stare in one direction, a direction that led to a place unlike the surrounding of the man that contained broken buildings, dim flickering lights, ash, embers of dying flames and withering plant life, no in the direction he was gazing - or glaring - at, a city known as the 'Capital' is seen thriving with everything his home didn't have; vegetation, electricity, life and wealth.
'Capital' was situated on top of an island that promised prosperity with fertile soils, and large deposits of minerals and metals. The distance between the broken city and the thriving City was small enough that the cities occupants could see each other with their own naked eye, but the distance was separated by a raging river.
The man sneered at the Capital, 'Well all we can be is scavengers, unlike those selfish Pigs sit in their fancy homes, plush chairs and silk clothing. Having a healthy, plentiful life while WE ARE SCRAPING AROUND FOR FOOD! Those indescpic–', he loudly breathed in deeply through his nose trying to calm himself and his thoughts.
Exhaling his breath slowly he removed the hood of his cloak revealing Auburn brown hair, and a pale, freckled, young man's face. He tilted his head to look at the moon in the night sky. Admiring how calm the night appeared, he calmly continued his thoughts, 'There is no reason to get angry… actually there is… but it's not mine nor any other scavengers fault that the Capital decided that we, "scavenger's", lives don't matter, that us hard working people suddenly no longer matter. That only them, the wealthy; slave drivers, business corporation owners, and people of politics matter'.
Hearing footsteps his thought process stopped, he listened. Hearing the pitter-patter of feet against the roof of his building he braced himself against the wall he was leaning against preparing to be attacked. And the attack came with a small form with golden hair lunging at him while wrapping their small arms around the man's neck. The man rolled onto his back while lifting the figure in the air. The figure was that of a small girl no older than 7, she had emerald eyes that reflected the man's own.
The man smiled and whispered in a nasally voice, "Hey kiddo", she was placed next to him and started to giggle as the man, her father, tickled her.
'Despite them destroying our home', the smile on the daughter's face, out shone the moon and the Capital lights, 'We still have hope for a Brighter Future'.
