Alice and Elliot watched happily as the fireflies began to fill the air. Elliot loved their carrot-orange color, but he loved the way Alice's eyes lit up even more.
"You know, back in my old world, I had a favorite song about fireflies by Owl City," Alice said.
"Really? How does it go?" Elliot asked, inviting her to sing it. And with that beautiful, slightly shy smile, she did!
"You would not believe your eyes
If ten million Fireflies
Lit up the world as I fell asleep
Cause they fill the open air,
And leave tear-drops everywhere.
You'd think me rude, but I would just stand and stare.
I'd like to make myself believe
That Planet Earth turns Slowly
It's hard to say that I'd rather stay
Awake when I'm asleep
Cause everything is never as it seems...
Cause I get a thousand hugs
From ten thousand lightning bugs
As they try to teach meHow to dance
A fox-trot above my head,
A sock-hop beneath my bed
A disco ball is just hangingBy a thread
I'd like to make myself Believe
That Planet Earth turn slowly
It's hard to say that I'd rather stay
Awake when I'm asleep,
Cause everything is never as it seems
When I fall asleep!
Leave my door open just a crack
(Please take me away from here)
Cause I feel like such an Insomniac
(Please take me away from here)
Why do I tire of counting sheep
(Please take me away from here)
when I'm too tired to fall asleep?
To ten million fireflies,
I'm weird cause I hate goodbyes
I got misty eyes as they said farewell.
But I'll know there several are
If my dreams get real bazar
Cause I saved a few, and I keep them in a jar!
I'd like to make myself believe
That Planet Earth turns slowly
It's hard to say that I'd rather stay
Awake when I'm asleep
Cause everything is never as it seems
When I fall asleep!
I'd like to make myself believe
that Planet Earth turns slowly.
It's hard to say that I'd rather stay
Awake when I'm asleep.
Because my dreams are bursting at the seams..."
"Wow, Alice! You've got a beautiful voice!" Elliot said, highly impressed. Alice just blushed, trying not to let the compliment go to her head. "I'm serious! You've got a gift! You should really try to become a professional singer. With a voice like that, you'd be famous in no time!"
"That's the thing, the only person I want to share my talent with... is you, Elliot!" Alice said, hugging him. It took a moment for Elliot to process this, but he was touched. Maybe Alice had stage-fright in front of crowds, but she'd been comfortable enough to share her voice with him and him alone. This quickly became the best night of his life so far.
Six time periods later, at the meeting in Clover Tower...
"You sang for Elliot and not for me?!" Peter asked, crestfallen. Yes, he'd stalked her again that night, and heard and seen everything. The singing, the hug, the kiss, the make-out session, and the impromptu lovemaking (at which point, he'd run away to wash his eyes.).
"How much did you see and hear?" Alice demanded nervously.
"I left when you two started... I can't even say it with out being sick." Peter said, unwilling to say that he'd seen his beloved Alice having sex with a man that was not him.
Alice simply glared. "Tell anyone that I can sing, and I will not hesitate to swipe Blood's machine gun and blow your brains out." she threatened.
That's what she was embarrassed about?!
