She Watches With a Gasp
A/N: So since MD ep 10 annoyed, saddened and made me happy all at the same time, I have decided to write a story about what would happen if Esther did live. If the morphic field did actually save her life. Starting off a one-shot, may turn into a multi-fic. Not sure
She lies there, staring at him, but not quite seeing him.
She watches him. In her last few moments, it is him she watches.
This man, Rex Matheson, the one she has come to love, to care about, to worry about, to constantly feel the need to protect; it is he who she watches.
Suddenly, her eyes flutter close, and she feels her pulse weaken. In the distance she hears words called out.
"Pulse failing. Quick. Come on, Esther. Stay with us."
She, Esther Drummond see's a light. It's so corny, that if it were something else, she would laugh.
But then she sees an outline. And she knows that outline.
The outline of her father. The one who died in that car accident and the reason she became a part of the CIA.
"... It isn't your time sweet pea. You have people who need you. Rex, Gwen, Jack. They need you and you need them. Go back... we love you."
Her eyes fly open and she gasps.
Life floods her body. Her senses return to her.
Sight; she sees the blinding sun beaming down on her from above.
Smell; she smells the thick, heady scent in the air.
Taste; she tastes the dry, waterless taste of her mouth.
Touch; she feels skin in her hand, squeezing it tightly. But it's not just any type of skin. It's Rex's skin. It's the skin that she has come to recognise from the first time his lips touched her forehead.
Suddenly she can hear everything around her too.
Her name is being chanted by many.
Medics, Members of the Army from Argentina... but she distinguishes one from them all.
"Esther? You with us?" Rex's voice asks.
She manages a weak nod before she starts coughing.
He lets out a breath and then collapses on his back.
A/N: And what did you think of that? I think I may write another part. Maybe another 3 or 4 parts... not sure. I'll see
