Distant

'Oh, so now, you're a storyteller?" Seventeen-year old Syaoran Li asked his auburn-haired, green-eyed best friend, Sakura Kinomoto.

They were both leaning on the trunk of an old cherry blossom, only a couple of yards across the school cafeteria. It was their free period, conveniently before lunch, and from where they were, the could even see some of their teachers enjoying an early, non-rush hour meal.

Sakura was sitting cross-legged beside Syaoran. A hardbound notebook, decorated with a painting of a cherry blossom, was lying open on her lap as she playfully elbowed the brown-haired boy.

"Hey, I'm a writer, not a the verbal-type storyteller, which basically means I'm just going to read you the story I'm planning to pass to the school paper," she said defensively. "Now, shut up so I can tell you the story, well, the summary, anyway,"

"okay, shoot," Syaoran said.

"I said 'shut up' already," Sakura chimed. "And by the way, Tomoyo's bodyguard lent me a gun, so I actually can shoot you,"

Syaoran rolled his eyes, smiling. "Don't take it literally, then. What would you be if I was gone?" he reminded her. "Just start the story before your cousin brings out another gun,"

Once, there was a girl who had well-off parents and a popular cousin. Her cousin would share everything with her, except for one thing – her best friend, a boy. Why? Because she loved him and couldn't let him go.

The girl knew that her sister liked the boy so she kept herself distant. Everyday, she would eat lunch by the tree across the cafeteria and she would watch him through the open window, eating lunch and having fun with her cousin.

"Alright, that's all for now," Sakura said just as the lundh bell rang. She saw a familiar dark-haired girl coming up to them.

"It's lunch, Sak," the newcomer said. "Want to join me and Syao-kun in the cafeteria?" she looked at the notebook in Sakura's hands.

Olivia smiled at her cousin. "I'll pass, Tomoyo," she replied.

"Oh, come one. You always have lunch here," Syaoran pointed out. 'The cafeteria will be a nice change.

Their efforts were futile. By the time they got to the table by the window – so they could keep an eye on Sakura – Syaoran realized the girl was still writing.

"You know, she read me one of her stories off her notebook, the one with the sakura petal," Syaoran told Tomoyo. "That cousin of yours really is a hopeless romantic."

Tomoyo's eyes widened, but she kept her gaze on the food in front of her. "Syaoran, that wasn't just any notebook. That was her diary,"

Syaoran swore his jaw just met the floor. He looked out the window and saw Sakura looking at them. She turned to her writing the instant she realized he was staring

And it him.

Because eveyrday, Sakura would eat lunch by the tree across the cafeteria, and she would watch him through the open windows, eating lunch and having fun with her cousin.

Author's notes: DEFINITELY WRITING A SEQUEL! A lot of people (both reviewers and my classmates who I forced to read this lame story - mostly the latter) want to read what's next. I love cliffhangers, so sorry if I brought that love into my stories. Sequel: I'm Watching You
