I feel like I haven't posted a story in ages! I'm working on a few stories at the moment, but none of them are to my satisfaction yet. I stumbled across this one, which I wrote a few months ago, and decided I might as well post it now. I hope you like it. (:

The Reason

No one had told him. It was two years after the event, and still no one had told him. He wanted to know. It wouldn't make much of a difference, really, but still, he was curious.

Seeing his ex-girlfriend walking with Parvati in Hogsmeade made him remember the question that had been on his mind for the past two years. He turned to Hermione and saw her look at Lavender and Parvati with concern.

"I hope she's alright. Those scars look like they won't fade for a long time, if ever." She said.

The corners of Ron's lips turned upwards slightly. "You're amazing, you know that?" he asked, gripping Hermione's hand ever tighter with his own.

He felt her squeeze back. "I do," she said with a grin, "but what makes you say it now all of a sudden?"

"All I know is if I saw Viktor Krum I'd be nervous or worried." He said.

"You have no reason to be jealous or nervous or worried about Viktor, Ron. We're together and that's all that matters." Ron smiled as she said those words. They had been together for ten months already, but it was still surreal for Ron – he still couldn't believe he was now with Hermione Granger. "Likewise when it comes to Lavender." Hermione continued. "I have no reason to be jealous or worried or nervous, do I?"

Ron shook his head. "Of course not."

Hermione smiled at him. "Good," she said, moving her head to lean against his shoulder as they walked.

"There is one thing that I want to know, though." Ron said.

"Yeah?" Hermione said dazedly, not moving.

"How did I break up with Lavender?"

Hermione's head shot up and her cheeks flushed pink. "Oh," she simply said.

"I mean," Ron began, "I just want to know what I said. You told me I said something in my sleep when I was in the hospital, and that it wasn't a long conversation, I just want to know what I said." Ron looked at Hermione. "What did I say when I broke up with Lavender?"

Hermione smiled sweetly at him. "You said my name. Just my name. Like a whisper."

Though embarrassed by the fact that he had mumbled Hermione's name aloud in his sleep, Ron grinned at the fact that Hermione had used his own words to tell him. He squeezed her hand gently and she rested her head against his shoulder once more.

They continued walking.
