Missing Pieces

Summary: We can try again.
A/N: Response to a challenge over at the csi100 community. The topic was 'lost things'. Here's what I came up with. Thanks to Mar-mar, for the encouragement.

She's staring at the playground. Her eyes glue on Lindsey, whose playing on the swing set, oblivious to the outside world. Slowly I walk up behind her and take her hand in mine. She looks at me, her eyes glistening with tears.

"I'm sorry, Gil. I'm so sorry." She whispers to me as she buries her face into my chest.

"Shh Cath, honey...I'm not mad." I wrap my arms around her and hug her tightly. Her tears stain my shirt. I can feel her trembling in my arms. "We can try again. The doctor says we can keep trying."

I hold her tighter. I try to replace the part of her I know is missing. The part I know is hurting.

I feel her relax in my arms.

And I hear her whisper, "We can try again."
