"I erm didn't really know what to get for you." Henry awkwardly stumbled over his words as he handed Neal a father's day card.

Neal beamed at his son. "Hey, I wasn't expecting anything." Having Henry in his life was enough for him. He'd only found out he had a son a few months ago and he had tried to spend as much time with him as he could during that time.

He knew why Emma hadn't told him. He was angry but he couldnt change it. He had hurt her so she hurt him back. They were also getting along now. At first it was because of Henry but he had apologised for everything that had happened between them and that had seemed to ease the tension between the two of them.

He turned his attention back to his card; his first ever father's day card. He opened it looking at Henry's eager-to-please-him face. A piece of paper fell out the card which he put to one side and read the card first.

"To Dad,

Happy father's day!

I'm glad you're around now. It's nice having a dad. Especially one who is pretty cool.

Love from

Henry x"

Neal was touched. As an eleven year old, Henry wasn't exactly going to write soppy words. But just seeing "dad" and how happy Henry seemed to be about having him around made his heart soar.

He never really thought about having kids really. Only when Henry showed up did he realise how much he had missed out on with him. He too was glad he was here now.

"Thank you, Henry!" He said, pulling his son in for a hug.

Henry muffled "and the paper" into Neals shirt.

Neal picked up the piece of paper that had fallen out of his card. "I almost forgot! Let's see this then!"

He unfolded the paper to see "2 x desert at Granny's" and he smiled again.

"Desert at Granny's, huh?"

"Yeah, one for you and one for me."

Neal laughed. "Come on then, I'll grab my jacket!"

Henry waited outside the door to make the short walk to Granny's whilst Neal picked up his jacket. He was grinning to himself like a mad person. A card and desert at Granny's may not seem like a lot, but to him it meant the world.
