I wake up in the warm, comfy bed, the first thing I notice is the wall. Grey stone... Like a castle, fitted together like an intricate puzzle. I smile and close my eyes, feeling as though I'm at home. Then I bolt awake as I realise I have no idea where I am.
I grab the lantern on my bedside table and a few tinderboxes on the desk, along with a mysterious blue liquid whose name escapes me. I do a few basic stretching exercises I remember seeing on TV, but where did I live with a TV?
I walk to my closet... Wait a second, MY closet? Anyway, I open the door to find a tinderbox, a backpack, and a change of clothes. I look at what I'm wearing with a satisfied smile, jeans and a polo shirt. I put my tinderboxes in my backpack and put my lantern on my belt.
I open the large wood and metal door to the hallway. There are large suits of armour... Wait. Grey? Armour? Am I British? I open my mouth and ask this aloud, only to hear my American accent and my horrible voice that sounds like nails on a chalkboard to me. I vow to never speak unless necessary, but I don't expect to have to here.
I walk down the hallway to the next door and look back. The armour blocks the way to my room. I pull out a tinderbox from my backpack and throw it in the air, knocking the helmet clean off the hollow knight. "That's what I was afraid of" I thought to myself. "I'm alone in a haunted castle... Not only that, but I wasted a tinderbox".
I turn and walk into a lobby-like area, with a giant metal door to my left and a hallway straight ahead, no doubt leading to a separate bedroom. I take a look to my right, but it's too dark to see, I look back left and the armours are back, lining the wall and covering the door. I sigh as I realise that may have been my only exit.
I start off down the other hallway, noting the similarities to the hallway of my room. I open the door and note the surroundings. The room is much bigger than mine and has many beds and chests of drawers, and a grate in the middle of the floor, I check a few chests of drawers and get a few tinderboxes, another bottle of blue liquid, a change of clothes, and a letter opener. I put them all in my bag and look down to see what can only be described as an abomination.
I feel my mind numb and my ears ring as I hear a deep voice emanate from my backpack say "drink the blue potion" several times. I heed his advice, and the monster, the voice, and the ringing goes away.
