Terrified at the sounds around me as I walk through the thickest part of the wood. Prepared to run from the slinking forms I knew would soon be close behind me. Being captured was not part of my plan but it had worked out for the best. I escaped into the woods still a human. I had gotten what I had come for. The information about these deadly creatures might help us end their exsistance. They called themselves the Night Hunters, we, the humans, called them Parisites. As I walked the horrible memories came back to me. . .I couldn't save him. . .
"Ginger we need to talk to you, there has been another. . .obduction" My best friend and co worker said as she stuck her head inside my office door. We both worked for a detective agency that was responsible for cases the cops couldn't solve. It burned me to my core having to hear all the excuses they give. It is pure laziness. "Of course, I'll be there in a minute". I rolled my eyes as soon as she was out of sight. they always sent her because they knew I wouldn't yell at her.
I
walked into the room expecting to see the sazy, good-for-nothing cops
that would give me and exuse for why they could not solve this
ordinary case. But the scene inside the briefing room was very
different. My boyfriend's parents and siblings were standing there
with tear stained faces. "Whats going on?" I hesitated then
the truth hit me. "Was it. . .Them?" The whole room shook
thier heads together. It didn't hit me, it knocked me off my feet. I
crumpled to the floor before anyone was there to help me. Sobbing and
jerking violently I screamed through the tears "How could this
happen!!??" Brigitte joined me on the floor then. "We don't
know, they woke up this morning, went to his house and the door was
broken in and their was a note in his bedroom."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing, they had never left a note, we
weren't even sure they were that smart. "what. . .d-did it
s-say?" I maneged to choke out. She stood up and walked over to
the place we kept the collected evidence and pulled out a plastic bag
with a yellowed piece of paper inside. She handed it to me and I read
the neat elegant script on the page. If
you ever want to see him again i suggest you do as is writen here. I
want one agent to come into the woods and meet one of our own. We
don't want trouble just a little game. If more than one comes we keep
the man. If you win the game you get him back.
It
was unbelievable. Nothing like this had ever happened. I clutched the
paper tight in my hands and stood. "I'll go" I spoke with
authority and pain. "You can't go we need you here." My
boss, Gabriel said. "This is my boyfriend and those Parisites
have him. I'll be the one to get him back. Tomorrow night I'll go
meet them, they said they onle want a game so i'll be the one to
play."
