Chapter 1: Misery Business

It was beautiful spring, and everyone in the Xavier institute was taking advantage of it. Danger Room sessions were limited, and the teachers forced all the kids outside to enjoy it. But one of those kids who practically ran out the doors was Roberto.

Roberto loved being outdoors. He loved sunlight, he loved the smell of the grass, he loved everything nature had to offer. He hated the rain, but loved what happened after it. Unfortunately, though, he did not have too many friends to enjoy it with him. See, he had many, many enemies, such as Ray, but not any close friends. Sam was friendly with him, as well as Rahne, but they didn't know too much about him. He could never really connect with them.

It was about 6 o clock in the morning, and Roberto was sitting on the front steps of the mansion, watching the sunrise, when suddenly, he saw someone. Who was it? No one was awake at this hour. He rose to his feet, and tip toed over to where the figure was. Once he could make it out, he saw what it was. It was a girl, lying in their driveway, suitcases at her sides. She had pale skin, strawberry blonde hair, blue eyes and freckles. She appeared to be staring at the sky.

Funny, I don't recognize her...and she couldn't be from the institute. Better keep a close eye on her! Roberto thought to himself. He crept quietly behind a bush, and edged closer and closer to her. "I hear you, you know." the girl said in a sing-song voice. Roberto practically jumped out of his skin, not expecting her to talk. "W-Who are you? What do you want?" Roberto said as menacingly as he could. The girl chuckled loudly at his failed attempts. "Touchy, are we? Name's Emily. Emily Nash. What's your name?" she said with a beautiful smile. Roberto, slightly distracted by her looks, blushed horribly. "Why should I tell you? You could be evil."

"Do I look evil to you?"

"...Well, no, I suppose not."

"Looks can be deceiving, you know. Maybe I'm a serial killer."

"What!"

Emily laughed. "Yeah, right. So, really, what's your name?" she said seriously.

"Roberto. Roberto Da Costa." he replied proudly. She smiled devilshly. "Ooo, exotic." she said spicely. Roberto blushed into an even deeper shade of red, if that was even possible. She leaned over and slapped his shoulder...hard. "Oh, Robby, you know I'm just joking!" she said, her cheeky smile forming once again. The nervous boy rubbed his neck, embarassed. "Y-Yeah, totally. So, anyways, what's your power?" he asked. Emily got up and ran over to a tree.

Just as Roberto was about to apoligize for being so outspoken, the tree lowered it's branches and Emily was lifted to the top. Emily's eye's were glowing, and spread her arms wide opened. A flock of birds came by her side, as well as squirrels and other animals. Roberto stepped closer to the tree, and suddenly, he was lifted at the top as well. "I can communicate and control living organisms, or anything that's been living before. I also have very limited gravity control." she sid shyly.
