Kagome held her small hand up to cover her mouth as a giggle slipped part her lips. She was sure her snickering had not escaped her husband's keen sense of hearing as the white appendage atop his head swiveled in her direction. Sango stood beside her as she also tried to keep her snickering at bay.
Off in the yard, Inuyasha and Miroku stood talking with the village headman. When a messenger arrived warning of a possible bandit raid, the man came to the monk and hanyou about how to best prepare. Inuyasha stood tall and every bit the warrior. His back straight, arms crossed, sword at his hip, ever ready for anyone who dared to threaten the safety of his home and family. Miroku, still the pillar of calm and tranquility, stood by doing his best to be the voice of reasonable strategy to Inuyasha's aggressive attack suggestions. His staff rested against his shoulder nestled in the crook of his crossed arms.
This, however, is not what had their wives so tickled. While the men talked about the best way to protect the village, the activity going on around their feet was not what one would expect while being in the presence of a monk and a half demon. This time, it was the high pitched giggles of Miroku's twin daughters that grabbed the attention of Inuyasha's ear. The two toddlers took turns chasing each other in circles around their father's legs. Occasionally changing course to go between his legs and under his robes. Miroku's height was noticeable shorter as he widened his stance to give his girls more room to play.
Inuyasha was not fairing much better himself. In an effort to keep his twin cousins away from his ears, his son had found refuge by climbing up his father's leg. While, the hanyou wasn't disturbed by the boy's added weight, his hakama weren't holding up too well, literally. Every moment or two, Inuyasha's pants would begin to give under the little hanyou's weight and slide down his waist, to which Inuyasha merely grabbed them and pulled them back up. Though putting his son on the ground would easily remedy the situation, he could sympathize with his son's desire to keep his ears out of reach.
"No, Mama!" came the tiny voice from the vicinity of Inuyasha's thigh. Inuyasha looked down to see his son's tiny hand pointed toward the house. Turning his attention that way, Inuyasha looked up to find Kagome toward them. Sure she was coming to take him back to the house, the little hanyou made a quick scurry up his father's body to set himself comfortable on Inuyasha's shoulders, wrapping his hands and feet around Inuyasha's head in case his mama tried to pull him down.
Kagome didn't hide her laughter this time as she looked at her husband's face, his eyes and mouth covered by tiny hands and dirt stained bare feet. Inuyasha let out a muffled "Keh" and he reached up and patted his son's head. At least now his pants would stay up.
