Arthur solemnly looked at the throng of British soldiers lying lifelessly beside him. Had it really come to this? He couldn't believe that his once obedient colony was now against him.
….
"Arthur we cannot take these damn taxes anymore!"
"Alfred our army defended you all! You're paying us back through these taxes! Your people owe us this!"
"It just isn't fair anymore! You can't just tax us without representation!"
"There's nothing I can do!"
With that being said, Alfred rose from his chair and strode towards the door. He turned to look at Arthur one last time before leaving. He wore a look nor of anger or sadness, but of sheer disappointment.
….
The brief conversation had occurred the morning after the Boston Tea Party. It was the chaotic event in which the colonists had dumped 45 tons of precious tea in the Boston Harbor.
Two years later, after colonists had put up with the Coercive Acts and other unfair laws the British had thrown at them, they have had enough.
The date was April 19th, 1775. The battle was at Lexington and Concord. Arthur recalled seeing Alfred's indignant face as he fired off the last of his bullets, then retreating into the woods along with the other colonists.
As he and the other red coats had marched back to town, the American revolutionists would emerge from the trees, shoot their rounds, and melt back into the woods.
He watched as young men fell to the ground; some died immediately from the bullets, while others lied there half conscious and moaning in pain as their own blood pooled around them. Eventually, he had been the last one of the troop to still be alive.
Weary and discouraged, Arthur slumped to the ground. He began to ponder future possibilities. Will we be able to control this whole thing from getting out of hand? Will they be able to overpower us?
Deep in thought, he heard a sound come from the bushes. Then out emerged a shadowy figure. Alfred.
He approached Arthur with the same look of disappointment his face held that one morning. As he kneeled down in front of Arthur, his bangs covered his eyes as he began to speak.
"I'm sorry Arthur," he softly mumbled, "but it had to be done."
Alfred stood up. Before he began to advance, he turned and looked down at him. In an inaudible whisper he said, "Farwell Arthur."
Author Comments: Well here it is, my very first fanfiction! Even though USxUK isn't one of my favorite pairings, I thought this would be an interesting story to write. Please excuse the fact that this is such a short oneshot. For the most part this is historically accurate. The reason the colonists rebelled with the Boston Tea Party is because of the Tea Act. The reason the Tea Act, Sugar Act, Paper Act, etc. happened is because of the fact that the British defended the colonies during the French and Indian War. The British decided to tax the colonists in order to regain the money they lost defending them in the first place. Also, I know that the Battle of Lexington and Concord/aftermath wasn't really as bad as I described it but...eh whatever. =3=
