In the early years of her life Ella remembered happiness. Or at least what she thought was happiness, she had no other experiences with this feeling to really know. She remembered a beautiful women who shined like the sun and who laughed as if angels were singing. Almost nineteen years of her life have passed and she has never known if the happiness was real or if it were all a dream. Ella kept this first and only kindness locked deep within her heart. It was the only thing that gave her hope even in her darkest of days. When Ella was only two the women she assumes was her mother passed away. Upon the grief of loosing his beloved wife her father blamed the small child, who resembled her mother even at a young age, and sent her away to her grandparents, his parents, never to be heard form again. In the beginning Ella was loud and needy, for she had lost both her mother and father in one day, but her grandparents would not have it. They had already raised one child and did not need another. So they would yell, scream, and hit her anytime she became too loud or unruly. They began to give her chores to keep her occupied so they would not have to worry about her. By the age of five Ella had more scars than memories and had become a maid rather than a child. In Ella's time there was no one to say her grandparents were wrong and Ella knew no better than to accept this abuse. At the age of seven Ella was scrubbing the floor of her grandparents main foyer. All of the sudden shouts and and foreign explosions were heard outside of the house. Her grandfather was the first to react, grabbing his shot gun of the wall and running outside. Then a shot rang out and her grandmother went running out. Her screams pierced the air and another shot rang out, as her cry was cut short. Ella ran to hide under the staircase and curled into a little ball. Men came in all at once ransacking the house. She could hear their footsteps pounding throughout the house. She tried very hard to make no sound and to hide. But the dust under the staircase itched her nose and mad her release one tiny little sneeze, thus condemning her to be found.
