He charges up the spiral stairway. He knows what he has to do. There's a Darknut in his way, but he swiftly dispatches it, leaving a trail of blood drops falling from his sword as he continues up.

Finally, after many of the skilled Darknuts and reckless Moblins, he meets his opponent. He wipes the blood off of his sword with a cloth, and points the shining blade directly at the opposition. The red haired man pulls out his own sword, much larger, and swings it, attempting to intimidate the young Hylian. The green clothed boy refuses to fear this man, and runs across the floor to initiate the battle that was destined to happen for eternity.

He swings the blade of evil's bane at the man's left, but is blocked, and smacked aside. The larger man prepares to stab down into Link, but the boy rolls away just in time, and stabs at Ganondorf's leg. The two point their blades at each other and begin to revolve around the little empty space between them, waiting for the other to make the next move. "Link!" The blond haired woman, trapped in a magical cage, calls at the boy, "Be careful!" How can he not be careful? One false move, and his opponent will take the opportunity to strike him dead. No, he shan't be reckless.

After the few seconds that seem like years of blood-thirsty waiting, the Gerudo man retracts his blade and prepares to swing. He swings the sword at Link's torso with all his might, which is quite considerable. The Hylian blocks it with his shield, but is knocked down by the force of the blow. The red-haired man chops downward, and Link feels it grazing his ankle as he crawls backwards, away from the lethal blade before standing up once more. "Link!" The princess calls, "He's-"

"SILENCE!" The Gerudo cuts her off with his bellow, giving her a nasty look. Yes! Now's my chance, he thinks, and without warning the young Hylian steps forward and swiftly stabs between the plates of Ganondorfs armor, watching as he falls to the ground, defeated.

I've won, he thinks, before seeing the magic cage shatter and Princess Zelda fall, dead. Of course. Ganondorf wasn't dumb; He'd punished Link for acting so quickly. He had linked himself to Zelda; That's why she told him to be careful. Link hadn't thought. There would be no rejoice in Hyrule. The world had fallen into chaos, just like the evil man had wanted. It was all for nothing, he thinks, as he drops to his knees beside the lifeless body of his love, and Hyrule's hope for the future.

What's the point? He asks himself. There's no hope, Zelda is dead...

The blood spreads slowly and stains his shirt as he retracts is sword, and slowly sheaths in on his back before falling to the ground, only to see it then; All three marks of the Triforce, glowing brilliantly on his left hand, and the blessed creation itself in front of him. His grief for Zelda had made him forget it. "No!" He calls, crawling towards it, weakening every second. He places his left hand on it gently. "I wish..." But he collapses before he can say it.

He had lost. He had beaten himself. As he died, he tasted the bitterness of his errors, and of his defeat.
