Miranda Rebecca Lawson: Holly's Mother.

I DON'T KNOW THE TIMELINE OF THE MARRIAGES BUT I just guessed.

1991

Miranda Lawson, a thirty two year old doctor was examining a patient in the hospital when an urgent call came in.

"Miranda, I need you to help with a patient," Captain Todd Gelfand sounded distressed and Miranda knew it was an emergency. He never sounded distressed, never ever.

The man brought in was a marine, thirty four, thirty five at the oldest but prematurely grey. He looked so helpless and Miranda sighed and turned to Todd.

"Has his family been notified?" asked Miranda.

"His wife and daughter died a few weeks ago and his father and mother in law are too busy grieving for them," Todd replied.

"The poor poor man," sighed Miranda. She got to work but while her hands steadily worked, her eyes never left his gaze.

2000

Leroy Jethro Gibbs sighed, the end of his marriage to Stephanie, while inevitable, was also saddening. He sat in his house in Washington again, happy to be home.

"Jethro, let me in," a small voice called. Gibbs growled, it had better not be Diane because right now he was in no mood to…

"I'm not one of your ex-wives you know," Miranda laughed, playfully taking off her coat. She sat down and hugged him tight. "Oh Jethro, I didn't know who else to come to. My mother died in her sleep last night. I heard you were back and I just… Oh Jethro." She hugged him close.

21 June 2001.

Gibbs ran into his fiancée's hospital room to see her cradling a new born baby girl. He sighed in parental pride and thought to himself 'I have a second chance.'

"Oh Jethro, I named her Hermione Ann," Miranda sighed. "After our mothers. She's so adorable isn't she Jethro?"

"Hey Holly, I'm your daddy," Gibbs said. Holly gurgled in response, flapping her arms.

"We're going to be a great family," Miranda sighed.

11 September 2001

Gibbs smiled, Miranda was at a conference in the World Trade Centre while Holly was at Miranda's father Charles's house. For him it was just another day in the office. Suddenly at 9:02am, in front of his whole team, a plane crashed into the South Tower where the Conference was.

Gibbs immediately tried to make himself busy, he went to the Pentagon to save the survivors, he spoke to the Director, he even placed Bin Laden on the Most Wanted Wall, all the while grieving for his poor wife. They had been married three months, but for him to could have been three minutes and he still would have done it.

The Funeral

Gibbs attended the funeral with his daughter Holly and his ex-father in law Charles Lawson.

"I take it you plan to care for Holly yourself?" Charles asked.

"I do sir," replied Gibbs honourably.

"Good for you, you deserve a second chance," replied Charles. "I will offer my services as doting granddad when needed."

"Of course sir," Gibbs nodded as the old man strode off. "It's just you and me now." He sighed at Holly, Holly smiled back and hugged him.
