It had been a dreary day of traveling. Kagome had noticed that since morning InuYasha had been pretty quiet, only speaking when someone spoke to him and keeping his answers short lived. She knew something was bothering him and she was going to find out what.
Night came quickly and the gang set up camp. Kagome knew it wouldn't be long before InuYasha went for a walk and almost as if reading her mind, the said man jumped down from his perch and slowly walked to the forest.
Kagome peeled herself out of her sleeping bag and followed him. Coming to a clearing she could see him sitting on a rock, looking sadly up at the moon. It was now or never! She needed to know what was wrong and she made it her mission to make him smile at least once that day.
Quietly walking over to him. She asked. "InuYasha? Are you alright?" His ears twitched, but he didn't speak, she sat beside him. Silence filled the air between the two.
When he finally spoke it come out as a whisper. "Why are you here? Why aren't you sleeping?" She turned to him slowly and spoke sweetly. "I noticed you were sad and I wanted to make sure you were alright."
He sighed slowly knowing very well that she wouldn't let this go until she knew what was bothering him. "I'm down because this was the day many years ago that I lost my mother." Kagome felt a pain in her heart and had to stop herself from pulling him into her arms. " She meant a lot to you didn't she?" "Yes.' He answered. "She was the only person to love me."
Kagome scooted closer and rested her head on his shoulder. "Well she's not the only person to love you anymore." InuYasha turned to look at her and she met his gaze. "But my love is different then hers was."
He went to ask her how, but her lips fluttering against his cut him off. She pulled away quickly and smiled. He hesitated then asked, "You don't mind that I'm a hanyou?" She shook her head slowly. "No of course not." He felt a wave of hope hit him and for the first time that day he smiled at her. Mission accomplished she thought to herself. They cuddled under the moon, in a peaceful silence, both feeling content in knowing that they would always have each other.
End.
