Some things happen for a reason.  Others are purely strokes of luck.  And, it can be safely said that nothing at all is an accident.

That was why she was stuck there.  There – of all places.  There.  It might have made her feel better to know that no one had noticed her.  Of course, why would anyone notice the small, outrageously dressed redhead in a sea of black suited men?  There were no reasons.  Of course, they could have stayed away because she looked like she knew what she was doing.  Or, it could always be that they were too busy to notice anything other than themselves.

Busy.  Yes.  The single, solitary word that could sum up her entire life.  Busy.  Parents too busy to give a damn about her.  Peers too busy to want to get to know her.  Life too busy to wait for her.  And now she was too busy – too busy to deal with herself.

These men certainly were busy and would not have waited for anyone at the pace that they were going.  They swarmed by her quickly, though she kept a steady speed.  She walked through the maze of people, dragging her large, worn, gray, flowered bag behind her.  She sighed.

'Of all the rotten luck, I had to get stuck here.'  She closed her eyes for a long moment. 'Cheer up Alia!  Things could be worse.  Much worse.  They could be here.'  She shivered.  Just thinking about them frightened her.  Being here…with out them…that frightened her, too.  She could not remember a time within the past four years in which she had been free.  The independence scared her.

She kept her eyes alert, and navigated herself to the right side of the large marble hallway.  And then down the small, un-traveled walkway that laid before her.  Here there was not as much light as before, and the few candles gave off only a small glow every six feet.  The balconied sides of the walkway made it feel as if she were on a bridge over endless darkness.

Her bag snagged on a rough spot in the marble as she walked.  She pulled it free and stumbled on into the darkness.  She did not worry that it would open unexpectedly anymore.  It never opened, not for her.  Not for anyone.  It was important though; the master wouldn't have given it to her if it weren't.

She shook her thoughts from the master.  She could not let those thoughts slow her down.  She had to make it.  She had to leave.

The master laughed evilly as he thought of her stumbling through the darkness.  She could not leave him.  No one could.

AN: I hope this made you a little curious!  Just remember that things are not what they seem.  Nothing is what it seems.  Please review and tell me what you think!  I missed that on my long sabbatical from writing!  I've got to go!  Smiles from Jaxx J  ps.  '___' = thought.  "_______" = talking
