End of an Era
A captain goes down with his ship.
Part of lore. Part of tradition. Of fable, myth, and story. Part of legend. Something that can't be ignored.
Another old saying, another tradition - warriors and fighters should die in battle. Well, pirates may not be warriors, as such, but they were fighters. And they fought. To save themselves, to save their crew mates, to save their way of life. To save their freedom. They fought with desperation, with the knowledge that this was the end. That if they lost, this was the end. The end of everything they had ever known, of all they cared for.
They fought, knowing that there was no chance of victory. Knowing that whatever else happened, they would die here. Maybe not today, maybe not even tomorrow. But here would be their graves, here was where they would fall.
This was their famous last stand. This was their day, their time. This was the ending of an era.
Here they fought. Here they fell. Here they died.
Here they passed into myth and legend.
Here ended the Golden Age of Piracy.
A/N: yeah, I dunno where this came from either...But seeing as it wouldn't let me do anything else till I wrote it, I figured I may as well write it. Maybe I'll see if I can make it any better some day. This is sort of set in a battle, yeah? But I don't really reckon that's how it all ended. It probably just sort of...petered out. But that wouldn't really make a very good fanfic, would it now?
