Life
Life is a funny thing; it never turns out the way you want it to. Everyone has dreams and aspirations and you hope that you can achieve it so that you can be content. Max had a dream, she wanted to be normal, have a normal life, and she didn't want to look over her shoulder all the time. She didn't want to live her life in fear, not knowing if she would be alive tomorrow or not. She wanted a normal, a normal guy. Maybe get married some day and have kids.
Max did have a normal life, or the closest to one that she could get, she had a job, a couple of great friends, and the hope of something new with Logan. But then reality bites you in the face-manticore. She got shot in the heart, Zack sacrificed himself for her and she ended up in a cell in manticore. Could life get any worse? She really shouldn't have asked herself that question. She met him. Smart Alec. Her breeding partner, manticore was really messed up.
She hated him, Alec was a screw up. He let her infect Logan and tried to kill her and Joshua, he wouldn't even let her steal a baseball without creating mayhem.
Hate was a passionate emotion, rather like love. There is a fine line between love and hate, she never realised that before. Max was clinging onto Logan like a lifeline, he was her key to normality, but she didn't realise when she fell out of love with him, rather she didn't want to acknowledge it. If she acknowledged that fact it meant she would have to accept something else, Alec had weaselled his way into her heart. He wasn't a screw up anymore. If she was being honest she was never a screw up, she just needed a way to protect her heart. The more time she spent with Alec, the more content she felt. Not that she ever admitted it not even to herself. He was always there for her, he always had her back. He protected her in ways that Logan never did.
Life is funny. It never turns out the way you want it to be. Max had thought that she wanted a normal life with a normal guy. At the moment Max was living in Terminal City. The place was rundown; they had to carry out supply runs on a daily basis so that they could survive. They had the American government as well as White and his familiars after them, Max and the other transgenics were constantly looking over their shoulders, but guess what? She was happy and content. Why? She had the love of her life by her side, HER Smart Alec.
