A/N: Officially one of my favourite 2008 films.
Eve's Garden
And they've only just begun. He has seven hundred years of loneliness, an entire world of trash and some music, whereas she has the repeating memory of waiting inside the Axiom with her sleeping sisters to share.
He raises a mechanical arm and she entwines her magnetic finger-like fins through his divided arm shovels. He whirs happily as he leads her to the top of a small mountain overlooking their renovated Buy-N-Large supply truck. He enjoys taking her here to watch the sunset, and she doesn't mind.
With a complete directive, she briefly wonders what function is left for her as Probe One and for the first time, dreams about exploring the Earth with her robot - perhaps take him in her arms and fly to the edge of the continent to confirm whether the ocean still exists.
"E-VAH?" His insistent tugging alerts her, brings her back to reality, and her blue eyes blink as she processes the newest gift the brave trash compactor has to give.
"PLANT?" she asks.
"FLA-WER," He replies. "FLAA-WER."
She giggles when he wiggles his eyebrow-like flaps and treads closer across the new dirt to her hovering white body. Today's miracle comes in the form of a new type of vegetation; he has been caring for the delicate green perennial for a while. It is white, just like her, and the small yellow face reminds him of the feeling he gets when she laughs.
EVE brings her arms to her side and with precision, scans the plant and searches her hardware for additional information, starting with its name. But Captain, overjoyed with their new home, has plans. After some minor adjustments, the sleek, ivory robot is able to communicate with the ship's computer, and the elder robot divulges all the information the young machine longs to know.
She takes the plant from him, holds it gently between her fins, and raises it to her face. After a few seconds, the name of the flower appears on her screen and her eyes widen with new knowledge.
"DAISY," she informs her companion before handing it back to him and watches curiously as his left arm shovel spins around, digs a shallow hole in the ground, and returns the white flower back to the earth. She will have to update Captain with her newfound information later today, and remind him to bring some water.
WALL-E rotates on the spot, raises his metallic head, and beeps to know whether she likes the gift.
"E-VAH? DAY-ZE?"
She laughs and takes his hand as they stroll down the hill back to the truck, the city a rusted haze all around them.
"WALL-E."
She loves it.
