Jonouchi didn't know how he had let Yugi talk him into it. Okay, so he did. Yugi told him to volunteer himself for this to raise money. Money for kids in the hospital, kids like his sister who couldn't afford to get surgery.
He was regretting agreeing to this now.
"The rules of the bid are simple," the announcer explained in the microphone. "Whoever bids the highest wins a date with this young man here." He motioned to Jonouchi, and Jonouchi fidgeted. He was going to regret this, he knew it.
Much to everyone's surprised, Kaiba was the one who opened the bid. "I might as well add him to my trophy cabinet as well. I'll start bidding for Jonouchi's ass at 55,939 yen."
"What?!" Jonouchi exclaimed, recoiling. He was promptly shot a glare from the auctioneer, and he shut his mouth and pouted.
Honda's hand shot up. "I'll bid up 60,000 yen!"
Jonouchi silently wondered where Honda got the money. He had just had to borrow 1000 yen from Jonouchi two days ago.
"65,000!" Yugi shouted. Had he not been sitting in the front row, Jonouchi was sure that it would be next to impossible to see his hand waving.
"70,000 yen! I won't be beaten," Kaiba glowered.
"75,000 yen!" Anzu piped up.
The auctioneer looked at Jonouchi and smiled. "You're quite popular, aren't you?"
"I guess," Jonouchi muttered, wondering how his friends hoped to pay for this.
"It seems our young man is quite popular," the autcioneer said. "In that case, I'll bid 100,000 yen!" Jonouchi tried not to fall over. He didn't even know the man!
"200,000!" Kaiba shouted.
"300,000!" Yugi yelled.
Honda sighed. "I'm out."
Jonouchi wondered how much longer it would take for everyone else to give up. He just hoped he wasn't stuck with Kaiba in the end.
"Aww, has the bidding already started?" a voice drawled from the back. Head's turned to see one Pegasus J. Crawford standing in the doorway. "I wonder how high it is. Hmm, I'll just have to put in 11,077,000 yen."
Yugi and Anzu both sighed and gave up, while Jonouchi looked on in horror.
"If that's the case, 11,177,000 yen!" Kaiba shouted.
Pegasus rose an eyebrow. "Does Kaiba-boy want to play with me? I'll raise it to 22,154,000 yen."
Kaiba glared. "He's not worth it," he finally spat, before getting up and leaving the auditorium.
The auctioneer pointed his gravel in Pegasus' direction. "Sold to Pegasus J. Crawford!"
Jonouchi fell to his knees, his only conciliation that lots of children would be able to have their surgery, and that he didn't end up with Kaiba.
