My inspiration for this poem Ben I still cry for you.
I Never Really Knew You
I never really knew you,
A dead body on the ground.
What significance have you?
You lost soul now saved and found.
I never really knew you,
Did you have a nice life?
With your family and friends,
Or dark places full of strife?
I never really knew you,
Your name was whispered in the wind.
You were mentioned in some passing news,
In the tune of a violin.
I never really knew you,
Did I pass you in the hall?
Maybe you looked my way,
But I never knew at all.
I never really knew you,
What did you like to do?
Maybe we shared the same interests,
Did you need someone to talk to?
I never really knew you,
Though I still miss you even now.
Could we have been related?
A bond broken like a vow.
I never really knew you,
Did you want to die?
It was so unexpected,
Some still think it was a lie.
I never really knew you,
As I hold my head in shame.
While others around me scream out for you,
Am I the one to blame?
I never really knew you,
As I sit here and hang my head.
The realization hits me,
It's too late, you're already dead.
I never really knew you,
And now I stop and wonder why.
If I never really knew you,
Then why do I still cry?
