A/N: My first time ever writing anything at all. Inspired by the story "Would you" by Mrs Ren.
A BIG thanks to Paulina Ann and Drumboy100 who encouraged me to take this step. I hope you enjoy!
I do not own the Hardy Boys, but sure wish I did.
"Will you love me no matter what?" Iola asked, sitting across from Joe on the front porch. Her boyfriend didn't even look up from his phone where he was playing Angry Birds.
"Uh –huh," He muttered lazily. Her brother, Chet was napping after a huge lunch and her parents were out getting groceries for the Morton Halloween party.
"What if I had BO?"
"I would carry around a deodorant. I would still love you."
"What if I go blind?"
"Then I'd be your eyes." He replied, still playing on his phone.
"What if I was fat?"
"There will be more of you to love."
"What if I get a double chin?"
"You'll always be beautiful to me." He squinted at his phone
"What if I have too many cats?"
"Then we can have cats, but I'm not emptying the cat litter." Iola giggled
"What if I was flat chested?"
"What are you talking about? I love you now, don't I?"
Joe's eyes widened, he had spoken too soon. Iola hit him. "I'm still developing, jerk."
There was silence for a few minutes. Iola enjoyed the gentle breeze and took a deep breath.
"Joe?"
"Hmm?"
"What if I lost my memory?"
"Then I'd tell you we are in love. I doubt you'll question my dashing good looks." Joe smirked.
"Hah! You are no Harry Styles", Iola's celebrity crush. Joe made a face.
"What if I was pregnant?"
"I'd run around like a headless chicken, but I'd still love you."
"What if my hair was blue?"
"I'd still love you, but I'd tell you "you look a little blue". Everyday." Still playing on his phone.
"What if I threw your phone away?"
"I would be angry. But I'd still love you." He finally put his phone down.
"What if…"
"Iola," Joe interrupted. She looked at him in confusion. "I'm going to love you no matter what you look like, what you do, or what animals you may or may not have an affinity towards."
"I love you too."
Joe smiled at the memory of the conversation. He was sitting on the front porch of the Morton farm. He watched as his brother and friends fussed over the Halloween party. It was a gorgeous evening and the breeze felt good against his face.
It had been three long and painful years since that conversation. He looked down at his hands and let out a long breath.
"I meant what I said that day Iola." He whispered. "I'd love you no matter where you are or how permanent our separation is. I loved you then, I love you now. I'd love you forever. Rest in peace my love."
A laughter from a distance caught his attention. He looked up to see a beautiful ash blonde beauty conversing with their friends. He slowly got up and walked towards her.
I'd love you, even if I loved another.
