Friend-zoned
Christine and Raoul. ONESHOT. Alternative ending for All I Ask of You
"No more talk of darkness
Forget these wide-eyed fears
I'm here, nothing can harm you
My words will warm and calm you
Let me be your freedom
Let daylight dry your tears
I'm here, with you, beside you
To guard you and to guide you"
Christine couldn't believe her ears. After years of her dreaming about him confessing his love for her, the moment had finally arrived.
Eagerly, she sang, "Say you love me every waking moment-"
"Christine!" interrupted Raoul, with a small frown on his face, "What I meant was that I am here to protect you from that monster you fear. I can't love you. My heart belongs to another." His tone was gentle but firm.
"But Raoul, when we were little you told me you loved me."
"Little Lottie, that was many years ago… Please take no offense, but a man of my status cannot fall in love with a girl like you."
"Like me?" Christine's voice had a sharp edge to it warning Raoul to choose his next words very carefully.
"I have already given my heart away to another woman, whom my mother approves of greatly. Plus, I am ten years your senior, surely a beautiful young woman such as yourself can easily find a more suitable husband."
"But Raoul, my father wanted us to marry. He said we were such good childhood sweethearts, and to let all that go to waste…"
"Christine, I think of you as a sister. We are no longer children; grow up Christine. You could have many a men at your feet, begging for your hand in marriage –"
"But they're not you, Raoul. I've always wanted and thought that I would be yours one day…"
Raoul forced his voice to sound cold and harsh, "Christine, I do not love you as anything but a sister. Forgive me, but the years between us are too many, and I have already found love. Move on and love someone else." Christine held back a sob as Raoul began to speak in a gentler tone, "I believe that there is an opera going on downstairs, you must return. They will be wondering where you are."
Without another word, Raoul hurried away from the roof and ordered for his carriage. He was eager to escape the twisted and corrupted opera house and return to his beloved fiancé.
Christine was left, bewildered, to process what had just occurred.
"Christine, Christine…." Erik's voice drifted out of the shadows, followed by his dark clad figure.
"Angel…?"
"I gave you my music, helped your song to take flight above the others, and this is how you repay me?! By denying me and betraying me?!"
"Forgive me, angel" Christine begged. But Erik let his anger take control.
"Forgive you? You would leave me for that fop if you had the chance. No Christine, you have tried my patience, I will not forgive you." He hissed angrily, before he flipped his cape and disappeared into the shadows.
"Angel?" Christine whimpered.
"Angel?!"
"ANGEL?!"
THE END
A/N- random idea that popped into my head…. Sorry if it's too random and weird.
