Not for the first time, shouts broke out in the B-Pit, so loud that Madoka was sure her new teammates had woken up at least half of the town. It was certainly not a new occurence and, as per the norm, Madoka's own voice joined them.
"SHUT UP ALL OF YOU!"
All activities froze as the four boys turned to face a very angry supporter member. Bright blue eyes glared at them with the coldness of ice as Madoka silently bristled. The rest waited with bated breath for her to explode, which really didn't take much time. "Honestly—"
SLAM!
Madoka turned without even finishing her sentence, dread filling her as she thought of the person behind them. Her eyes settled in the figure near the door and she froze at the sight in front of her. The thirteen years old redhead scowled at them, her ice blue eyes narrowed into a glare. Her messy bedhead and light pink pyjamas, however, ruined the effect. Madoka could hear the boys chuckle and despite herself, she couldn't help but join in.
"K—Kotone, you look ridiculous," Gingka informed his cousin, making her scowl deepen.
Kotone growled, effectively making them all shut up. Suddenly, Madoka wished she had remembered that in spite of her years, Kotone was still one of the WBBA's top agents. "Is there any particular reason you lot of dunderheads decided to wake up the whole damn city?"
Ice blue eyes bore holes into them as Masamune, Gingka and Yuu scrambled and pointed at each other. "It was all their fault!" At the simultaneous exclamation, they turned to face each other. "My fault? How is it my fault?"
Kotone did not look impressed. She turned to face Madoka and Tsubasa, arms crossed. "What happened?"
Madoka shrugged. "No idea." Next to her, Tsubasa nodded.
The young girl sighed. "Seriously, you're leaving for China in a week. This can't go on. You need to learn to at least tolerate each other." By now, she was muttering more to herself, anger forgotten in the face of the problem at hand.
"That's what I keep telling them," Madoka chimed in as the boys gave them both identical looks of exasperation. It was one of the reasons Kotone had stayed in the shop, to try to get them to work with each other.
Kotone then turned her attention to the group as something in her eyes shifted. Madoka recognized the look easily. It was the same as the one Tsubasa had every time he decided that enough was enough. "Alright, listen up, you lot. You're going to cooperate with each other whether you like it or not."
What did she have in mind? Madoka herself had tried everything she could think of but nothing really worked for more than a while. What could Kotone do to—?
"What are you planning?" Madoka turned her head to glance at Tsubasa, who was watching the redhead with narrowed eyes.
Kotone gave them a bright smile. "This." She marched out of the room and closed the door behind her. The team shared a look. Just what was she doin—?
The sound of metal scraping against the floor reached her ears and Madoka's eyes widened. "Hey, is that my workbench?" she asked, raising her voice to make sure she was heard.
She was replied with a rather satisfied, "Yup! And don't you dare try to break out!" The threat was clear in her voice.
Madoka glanced around. They were locked in a room. Together. With no way put other than what was definitely a suicide mission.
Naturally, all hell broke loose.
Several fights, minutes and broken chairs later, the entire team lazed around the room, lamenting their luck. Honestly, when Madoka got her hand on that redheaded brat, she would commit murder. In the past fifteen minutes, she and Tsubasa had had to break up ore fights than she had in an entire day.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
"Stop it, Masamune! Gingka!" Madoka snapped, feeling patience flow out of her like water.
The two turned to face her with scowls, Masamune delivering the door a parting kick before crossing his arms, looking much like a child throwing a tantrum.
Surprisingly though, it was Yuu who broke the tense silence. He let out an aggravated cry, running his hands through his hair. "I have had it! I'm hungry! I didn't even have breakfast!"
"None of us did," Tsubasa reminded him, eyes closed and arms crossed as he leaned against the wall. He sighed. "Instead of complaining, why don't you try to actually get along? That might make her open the door."
The three looked at each other contemplatively, frowning at the thought of having to put up with each other. Madoka herself shrugged. Out of all of them — sans maybe Gingka — Tsubasa knew her the best. He would know.
"Okay, so what do you want to do?" she asked.
Yuu gave her a look. "I want to eat ice-cream."
Madoka sighed, but Gingka took things in his own hands. The redhead cocked his head to a side. "Which flavor? Personally, I like chocolate the best."
Yuu turned his gaze on him, blinking in surprise. He probably hadn't expected Gingka to make an effort for this whole "team bonding" session. Then, the youngest member shrugged. "Never had chocolate before."
Even Madoka couldn't stop herself from gaping at that. Chocolate was universally the favorite for all children, so how come—?
"WHAT?!"
THUD!
All eyes turned to Masamune who had toppled over his chair in surprise. The green-clad bladder recovered quickly though, and stood up, wide brown eyes settling on Yuu. "Bu—But chocolate is life! How can you live without chocolate?"
Everyone gave him weirded out looks. Sure, Masamune could be a bit obnoxious, but none of them had ever seen him so worked up about chocolate of all things. Yuu tilted his head, green eyes more worried than she knew he would like to admit. "I'm allergic to chocolate. Are you feeling okay?"
Masamune blinked for a while, as if he having an epiphany of what he was doing. "Y—Yeah, I guess."
Silence reigned for a while and Madoka looked around, feeling rather awkward. Tsubasa had started reading a small book he got from who knew where while the rest were just like her, looking around awkwardly while trying to find something to say.
Finally, Yuu broke the silence. "Can we play a game?"
They turned to him as Gingka asked, "What game?"
"Don't know, Truth and Dare?"
"There aren't many dares to do in this room." Madoka jumped and turned to Tsubasa, who had yet to lift his eyes from the book.
Yuu, however, wasn't so easily deterred. "Then we can all just pick truth! And to make things more interesting, all of us can ask the person a question each."
Madoka considered it for a second. It was either that, or staying cooped up in the room for who knew how long with nothing to do. She shrugged, "Alright."
They actually managed to spend the next few hours talking without shouting — too much — before Kotone finally opened the door. Black smoke entered the room, making everyone quickly cover their noses. What on Earth?
The younger redhead coughed, giving Madoka a pleading look. "Need help," was all she said as Madoka got up.
"What happened?" the brunette asked while opening a window. Kotone gave her a long suffering look.
"I tried cooking."
Madoka summed up everyone's thoughts on one word. "Ah."
Once all the mess was taken care of, Kotone turned to them with a bright smile. "Well? Did it work?"
The five glanced between each other. The past few hours — half a day, Madoka realized as she looked at the clock behind the young girl — had been informative, to say the least. Honestly, Madoka would have never imagined that just like her, Masamune was interested in mechanics or that Gingka was actually into literature or that Yuu was colorblind or that Tsubasa was a Japanese-Canadian.
"Uh huh," Yuu said with a smile brighter than the Sun. "It was so much fun!" Then, to himself, he added, "We should play Truth and Dare more often."
"But," Madoka cut in, giving Kotone an annoyed look. "Never do that again unless you want to part with your bey forever."
Maybe she was seeing things, but Madoka could have sworn that she saw a bead of sweat trail down her forehead. "O—Okay," she said with a sheepish smile, rubbing the back of her head the way Gingka did when feeling awkward.
Still, Madoka had to give it to her. The kid had done something even she couldn't do, she has molded the five of them into a team. And who knew, maybe Gan Gan Galaxy could stand at the top of the world.
A/N: Guess who decided to rewrite a story after being halfway done? This genius -_-. Sorry for disappearing for so long without a word. You see, during that time, I started my academy — which, for those who don't know, is evening school — with my usual morning school and it let up at eight o'clock. Along with that, I had a huge writer's block and just didn't feel like writing anything. Then, my never ending exams started which ended on 6th of May.
So... Yeah, updating wasn't my top priority.
That said, during that time, my writing style changed a lot and the old draft I had written for chapter 24 — along with the rest of the story — made my head spin. I must say, for a while I considered discontinuing Kaleidoscopic but the 143 reviews on the old story made me think again — by the way, thanks for sticking with me for so long.
Now, I need to explain a few things here that are not in accordance with the canon — did anyone notice?
1) The other teams were formed long before Gan Gan Galaxy, but I find it hard to believe that they were formed only hours before they had to leave for China, especially considering that Ryo and Hikaru are two of the executives for the tournament.
So, for the sake of what I believe is realism, formed the team a week before they had to leave for China so they could get used to each other a bit. Honestly, they were lucky in the canon that they were all friends. Imagine if someone like Reiji or Ryuga had won. Which gives me an idea, Reiji on the same team as the ten years old he terrified.
2) Kotone. Those who remember the old version, would most likely remember Kanade, the ten years old agent. I've changes her name and age so now, she's Kotone Kisaragi, WBBA's thirteen years old special agent and Gingka's cousin.
3) This reminds me, I'll be changing the ages a bit.
Gingka, Madoka and Masamune — 15
Kotone — 13 (Mostly because I got a few reviews about a ship between Kotone and Masamune, but the age gap in the original made me a bit uncomfortable.)
Yuu — 10 (I honestly don't know what age I should give him. He seems to act a bit mature in Fusion as compared to Masters, but his battle with Reiji has convinces me that he's a kid. So, instead of the original eight, I'm making him ten, a bit closer to Kenta.)
Tsubasa — 17
4) The bit about Tsubasa being a Japanese-Canadian came from a fic I read, A Season of Festivities by JuniperGentle. It's awesome and I highly recommend checking it out.
5) I've decided to make a few spin-offs for the Kaleidoscopic series to explore things from different perspectives. The one I'm currently going to work on will be about Tsubasa's assignment in the Dark Nebula fiasco. Maybe one from Yuu's point of view in Fusion or one about Masamune's past...
6) I don't own the cover image. A friend on Wattpad made it for me :)
Anyways, that's all for now. See you guys in the next chapter — I hope.
