Klaus had ruined any relationship she'd had with Stefan, Bonnie died in the process of trying to defeat him, Jeremy killed himself after the impact of all the death around him really closed on him, all Alaric ever did was drown his sorrows at the grill. Caroline left town right after Tyler left with Klaus along with the many other hybrids he had made. And Damon... She misses him more and more every day.
So now she travels the world, it manages to keep her mind off of everything going on in her life and it makes her feel free. She meets people all over the place and is always surrounded by people she hardly knows but she remembers them well and it helps her keep calm.
She goes to a lot of places and a lot of bars, drowning her sorrows, dancing until the night ends and generally meeting new people.
But she knows she'll never forget the night that they caught each other's eyes in a bar.
And for a little longer than a moment, she wishes that she hadn't left the miserable town of Mystic Falls.
Those beautiful sapphire eyes are just a painful reminder of the memories that she won't get rid of, they'll stay with her forever.
And for a little longer than a moment, she questions why she left in the first place.
