"Girls love flowers"
Those three simple words rang in his ears hours after they fell from her lips. It wasn't just what she said; it was the way that she said it. He couldn't figure it out. There was almost longing in her voice, but how could he know for sure. As he walked down the eerily quiet halls of the Miami-Dade Crime lab he began to replay the day's events in his head. Nothing had been particularly out of the ordinary that day (he grinned at the thought of Calleigh's face when he walked in on her with the box of "edible undies"). Sure they had been a little strained since that day when she had read his psychiatric files, but their relationship hadn't changed that much, had it? They still flirted and joked around, but they didn't talk about their lives as much they did. He didn't get to see her off the clock as much. He guessed that they had reached a new level in wherever they were heading, but he still wasn't sure if he was the only one with those feelings. She hadn't exactly been telling him everything, but he could see that her infamous walls were slowly coming down. When she had been slapped in the face by that women (that's how he referred to her now, as that women) she hadn't lied to him, she hadn't put on a fake smile and replied with her patented "I'm fine". No, she had finally told him the truth, what was under the surface, she wasn't fine. The death had really taken a toll on her. It took him quite a while (not to mention a lot of Ben and Jerry's) to get her to realize that what had happened was out of her control. He smiled at the thought of lying on Calleigh's couch, rubbing her back while she stared out in a daze (she didn't believe in crying "it does nothing to help the situation" she had told him one day). That was Calleigh, as tough as nails (or at least that's what she wanted the world to think). He continued his walk down the halls to the locker room to grab his bag. As he remembered what Calleigh had said, and changed his route to the morgue to apologize to Dr. Price. As he neared the doors of the autopsy theater he heard a squeal of delight. He peered over the balcony to discover Price smiling happily at large bouquet of pink roses on one of the examination tables. A smile spread over his face and he rushed out of the lab without saying he was sorry, that could always wait for tomorrow.
~The next day~
Calleigh sighed as she walked into her apartment and threw her purse onto her nearby chair. I wasn't that she didn't love her job; it was just that sometimes it got to her. There was one reason that she did go to work however. She smiled with just the thought of him. As she walked into her kitchen she was astonished to find a vase full of assorted flowers sitting in the middle of her kitchen table. She smiled as she picked up the card. She read it three times over before placing the card on the table, and picking up the flowers to take them into her bedroom. The card wasn't signed, but she knew exactly who they were from.
