The night was cold and dark.

Something was wrong.

He could feel it in his bones. Something was going to happen. But what?

His breath came in ragged gasps. He stood up. He threw aside the bottle.

Something was wrong.

He stood shakily for a moment. His eyes closed slowly. Memories flashed behind his eyes.

"This here is my best mate." James grinned, poking Sirius in the back. "Mum, Dad, meet Sirius Black."

A tear trickled down his cheek.

Why?

He didn't know.

"You are just as much of a git as Potter is." Lily sniffed. Then her look softened. "But I love him. So I guess you're not that bad either."

His lips turned upwards slightly, remembering that day.

What was happening?

"Goorrgle!" Harry gurgled, smiling. Sirius laughed, picked up his godson and whirled him around the room. Harry laughed, giggling like only a baby could.

He put his head in his hands.

Something was wrong.

His head jerked to the side. His eyes flashed open.

He had to get there.

Right now.

Something was happening.

"Go!"

He grabbed his cloak, threw open the door and ran into the night.

The cold dark night.

That cold dark night.

He took the steps downwards three at a time and burst on to the street breathing hard.

He ran.

All thoughts of magic had fled from his mind. He had to get there.

He ran.

He ran.

He ran.

Then he stopped.

A hand reached out.

Grasped the small iron gate.

Held it like he would never let go.

"Our new house, mate! Isn't it something?" James beamed.

Lily rolled her eyes, juggling Harry on her hip. "He's more excited than I am." She said with a smile.

Not a sound escaped him, not a single tear as he gazed at their wrecked house. He knew what he would see if he looked above to the greenish glow. He knew what he would find inside.

But he couldn't face it.

His best mate, friend, whatever you want to call it.

His brother.

Was dead.

His sister.

Was dead.

His son.

Was dead.

As Sirius Black stood at the entrance to the ruined little cottage, time was passing. The stars were twinkling, miles above him and the dead bodies of his best friend and his wife. The night was growing colder. It was growing darker. Soon there would be nothing.

Nothing at all.

"This here is my best mate." James grinned, poking Sirius in the back. "Mum, Dad, meet Sirius Black."

His best mate.

Brothers.

Forever.

Aww…how is it?? This is going to sound uber-weird, but I had just read a Sirius/Lily one-shot fic, where she leaves him for James because she can't hurt him that way, and all of a sudden, I felt the intense urge to write this.

I really am becoming emo, aren't I?

Sigh

Anyways. Please Read and Review!!
