I Do
Silence.
Then-
"You know, maybe we should get married."
She swears her heart stopped.
I want an open chariot, black horses and shiny shoes.
An off white vintage lacy gown,
I've Juliet's hand me downs.
No whinnies of horses; only the buzzing of bees.
She was in a bee suit, white, yes, but it was heavy and thick.
Protective nets fluttered with each breath exhaled.
Were veils black and made of nylon?
But Romeo ain't my lover,
But he was always different.
He even had to do this differently.
No kneeling on the ground.
No fishing around in a pocket to produce a stunning diamond ring.
No proper proposal.
And all that really matters is
But she didn't need all that.
She didn't need fancy, on-one-knee proposals.
Or a five-carat diamond ring in princess cut.
They didn't matter.
Hey, I love you.
She loved him.
From the day they met till—
Well.
Now.
Now that mattered.
Hey, I love you,Hey, I love you, I do.
"Sara?"
Snapping back into reality, she glanced at him, smiling apologetically.
"Uh. Sorry. What?"
"I said, look into the honeycomb. There's something you should see."
And happily ever after is where I'm gonna live with you cos
Hey, I love you,
Hey, I love you, I do.
Peering into the comb he held up, she saw something amongst the workers, the drones and the queen.
Something wedged into a hole on the comb.
Something tiny.
Something that, when hit by a ray of Vegas sunlight, sparkled crazily.
"Gil..." her breath caught.
It couldn't be.
Hey, I love you,
Hey, I love you,
Love you,
He reached in carefully and pulled out the object.
After wiping it down on his bee suit, he held it up to the light and smiled shyly at her.
She gaped.
"Sara—"
He pulled her in closer, so that her face was only inches from his.
"After what happened to you last month, I realised how short life is, too short to be lived with regrets. When you were missing, all I could think about was all the things we should have done, but never did. All the things I should have said, but never said."
He took her left hand.
"Sara. I love you. I could say it a thousand times, but it still wouldn't fully express my emotions."
She started crying when he slipped the ring onto her fourth finger.
"Will you marry me?"
Smiling through her tears, she nodded.
Hey, I love you,Hey, I love you,
Love you,
I do.
