At the Edge
Hinata stood on the Hokage Monument, the Flower of Kohona. She suspected she fit her nickname that day. She wore a long white dress; it flowed beautifully to her ankles. Her long indigo hair fell open down to her waist.
Her lavender eyes looked out into the village. She was barefoot, like she always was when she came here late into the night. She stepped forward and looked down; maybe she would finally do it.
She was useless. She had always known this, it had been beaten into her at a young age, but now… She was disinherited and banished from the clan, could not help her team who were all rapidly moving forward, and could not even get her love to look at her.
It was all she really wanted anymore, just to get Sakura to really look at her. Now though, now she wanted nothing but the peace one more step could bring. She was finally at the edge, and ready to take the final leap to end it all.

Sakura sat in the trees behind the monument watching Hinata. She was the only one who could see the suffering behind Hinata's kind and gentle eyes. Hinata was one of the few people who thrived on helping people.
She would do anything to get someone, anyone to smile. That was taken advantage of in this day and age. Sakura knew Hinata was no exception. She watched Hinata, but did not let on she did.
All Sakura sought out of life was to protect Hinata, who was fragile as a flower. It was her nickname, most Ninja knew her by it because she was renowned for her garden. People traveled from all around to see it.
Though Hinata was ninja, it had never suited her. She was such a kind soul. Therefore, Sakura watched, and waited until she was driven to the edge by the weight of everything people placed on her.
The expectations, the required help, the need for a kind word… and no one knew they did it. Everyone in their Rookie 9 had always sought her when they were down and Hinata would build them up.
Sakura noticed they did it, Sakura knew she did it too. However, she stopped now, and watched her always. Every night she knew Hinata came here. Usually just to clear her mind, to calm herself.
Lately though, Sakura saw the look in her eyes gazing out. She was thinking of jumping. Sakura would wait, because she would not interfere until the last possible moment.
No one knew it, but Hinata worked silently to build people up and out of their worlds of lowliness and depression. No one knew it, but there was no one to build Hinata up. No one at all.
Sakura hoped to try to fill that spot, but until the last moment possible, she would wait. She would watch.

Hinata and Sakura were both unaware of the fact that they silently gave each other what they wanted. Hinata wanted Sakura to look at her, but was unaware that she was the only person who truly looked at her.
Sakura wanted Hinata to be protected, and was unaware she drove cruel people away from Hinata, and Hinata always felt better when she saw Sakura. Just by being there, she helped protect her.
Neither knew it, but they saved each other. They helped each other keep away from the edge.
Hinata would not jump, for Sakura would step in if she ever really tried.
Sakura would not wilt for Hinata built her up whenever there was need for it.
Neither knew it, but they saved each other. By giving the other what they desired most.
