Warnings: spoilers for ROTF if you somehow missed the explosion-filled extravaganza.
Notes: Written as a comment fic prompt fill for Antepathy over on Ultharkitty's DreamWidth comment fic and pic party post. The prompt was Megatron (any continuity) the taste of victory. For some reason, it just screamed "Bayverse" at me.

It had been so close this time.

Megatron snarls wordlessly at the few mechs close by - Starscream is smart enough for once to keep his vocalizer muted and skitters away quickly, while Soundwave silently backs off - and stalks through his throne room.

It is his now by virtue of The Fallen's demise. His designation will soon enough be stricken from the memories of his Decepticons.

By all accounts, for all intents, he should have his brother at his non-existent mercies at this very moment. The planet belonging to the annoying fleshies should be a lifeless husk. The hatchling pods should be thrumming with new life, opening to release the future of Cybertron - and the Decepticons were the future of Cybertron, no matter what his noble fool of a brother might think - instead of continuing to wilt away.

But no. That thrice-damned boy had interfered once again, leading to another defeat at his brother's hands and the complete destruction of The Fallen.

Well... that is no big loss.

Megatron ceases his raging slowly, processor going over the plans he had never implemented in the past due to his Master's disapproval. A sly smirk begins to cross his faceplates, and soon a laugh will break free. It will not be a pleasant laugh, but it will do wonders to put his officers, both of whom are still waiting nearby - not out of fear but out of a true loyalty that not even The Fallen could gain from either the willful Starscream or the steadfast Soundwave - at ease. They will wait patiently for him to speak, and will act quickly to follow orders.

Megatron knows this, and it is why he knows that the next time he faces Optimus Prime in battle? He will not only get a faint taste of potential victory, but that he will be triumphant.

End Note: In before Dark of the Moon, which I won't be seeing as I no longer have faith in Bay to not screw up any character he tosses on camera.
