You'll Never Cry Alone

By Waterrain

"Bloody hell. How on earth did I receive only two votes when some said that they would vote for me, but then again I tend to be screwed over." England said to himself in a depressed voice and he opened up another bottle of whiskey. "Lousy FIFA members."

He didn't hear his front door open and England was gulping down his whiskey while silent tears fell down his cheek at the humiliating loss.

'Just two bleeding votes. My dreams and hopes crashed yet again.' England mentally thought over and over again. Tears running down faster, he choked slightly on the whiskey, but finished it and gasped for air.

"England, I heard about what happened." Germany stated bluntly and England stared at him for a moment. He was going to ask how on earth Germany got inside, but England decided it didn't matter and opened up another bottle of whiskey.

"Yeah and everyone else. America got three votes in the World Cup 2022 first round, but he managed to make to the final round. Qatar won the World Cup 2022 and that makes me glad." England commented to Germany and he added bluntly. "America would have been unbearable if he had won and I might have strangled him or cut out his tongue."

Germany nodded and he sat down next to England.

"Of course he'll be bragging and saying that at least he made to the final round, but I can deal with it." England said bitterly and he finished another bottle within minutes. Germany sighed softly to himself, he wiped away England's tears, and held him close.

"Then again America will be pissed that Russia managed to win the World Cup 2018 bid while he lost the 2022. America will be annoying and whiny, but at least he made it farther than me." England stated in a low and tired voice. Germany petted him on the head with his right hand while his left arm held England around the waist and he felt England's head on his chest.

"Why are you here? To laugh or make fun of me?" England managed to ask and his head ached.

"You'll never cry alone." Germany simply said and England chuckled dryly.

"I always cry alone and I'm use to it." England said calmly and he didn't move from Germany's grasp. "I hope you understand that the next time I cry and your not there it will break my heart."

In an open letter to England titled 'You'll Never Cry Alone', German daily Die Welt said England's application had been hindered by allegations in the British media of corruption amongst FIFA's executive committee.

England's bid to host the event for the first time since 1966 crashed out in the first round in Zurich after receiving just two votes - one of them from Englishman Geoff Thompson - as the 2018 World Cup went to the Russians.
