"You have to do this."
I nodded solemnly. Endless was right but it didn't make this easier to do.
"So once they get away far enough their memories will come back?" I ask.
Endless nodded, "And by that time the island will disappear from their timeline. They won't be able to come back."
Unfortunately I have to stay behind on the Island. When we learned the news everyone swore to stay with me but I know they all have family to get to.
But Jake⦠He needs to go and set him and Mike free so that they don't have to keep running.
I didn't want to be the one to hold these people back. The people that saved me time and time again. For some reason they looked up to me for answers and strength. They deserve a future.
I begged them to leave me here but no one budged.
Until Endless came to me with a flower that bestows temporary memory loss.
Everyone was waiting for me on the beach. I was staying behind with Endless and Vaanti in the forest line.
It hurt to see Varyyn saying goodbye to Diego.
Diego loves him but their goodbye seemed like they were mere acquaintances. Varyyn I knew was heartbroken about this just like I am but he too didn't want to hold anyone back to this life.
I stepped out onto the sand.
"Echko!"
I smiled at Diego who looked relieved to see me.
"Can't believe you want to stay here." He said when I got to him.
I chuckled, "I just feel like I belong here. Besides I wasn't doing much at home"
"You're my best friend, I just can't believe what I'm going to do without you. It was me and you against the world."
Craig laughed from nearby, "Who cares already, let's go. If she wants to stay here fine. Her loss."
"I'll miss you to." I smile at him. I forgot how mean he was to me before we got to know each other. And maybe when he regains his memory he will regret that being are parting words.
"I won't miss you. But hey it's an empty seat so I won't be crowded in the plane." Michelle retorted.
Same with her.
"Hey be nice. Sorry about these two." Sean smiled at me as he helped Michelle get on, "I really didn't know you but I'm glad you found a place you feel like you belong at."
I nodded, "Thank you Sean. I just want to say to you guys," Gesturing towards Craig, Michelle, and Sean, "Thank you. For everything that we've been through. You guys saved me and I will always remember you."
They looked at me like I was crazy. Sean look a little worried for me but before he could speak Aleister walked up behind me.
"You only spent time with Diego, what are you wasting your breath about."
I twirled around, "I'll miss you as well. I want you to know you're nothing like your father."
He froze at that. Before he could sputter a response Grace came over.
"I had so much fun. I know you'll have a blast here Echko." She got in the plane before I could respond and Aleister looked at me perplexed before following her.
Close call. I gave too much info I shouldn't know.
Estela walked by me, silent as usual.
"Don't know why you would choose to stay here." She grumbled before brushing past me.
I smiled and turned to Quinn.
"Echko I can't believe you're staying! It'll be like paradise every day! I would stay if I could but my parents worry too much." She pouted and I laughed.
"I'll miss you and your bubbly self." She pulled me into a hug before letting me go, "BYE! Take care!"
Zahra just nodded at me with her ear buds in. I nodded back.
Raj wasn't too far behind, " The food here was amazing! I'll sure miss it!" He didn't wait for my reply before Craig called him over.
With that I braced myself for the guy I was waiting for. My Husband. Not by normal laws we were used to, but the Vaanti way-Handfasting.
I took a step closer before I was blocked by Mike.
"You don't have to do this Echko."
I smiled sadly at him, "This is for the best. I saw everyone's future and none of it will come true if they stay here with me. I saw mine and this was it."
We let Mike keep his memories because we needed a pilot that wouldn't get bombarded with memories. Who knows if they'll black out for a second and I need my friends to make it out alive.
"Jake won't forgive me for this." He muttered.
I laughed but couldn't say more because Jacob was right in front of us.
"Hey princess. Can't believe you want to stay here but whatever floats your boat."
I smiled, "Well I know you guys are going to set things right back home."
Jake looked at Mike, "I still can't believe you are here and want to do this. I'm nervous but we got to do it. I'm done running."
I grabbed Jakes hand. It startled him before he looked at me smiling, "What is it princess? Miss my good looks already?"
I nodded, "Yes."
He looked shocked at my straightforwardness.
"May I have a kiss? First and last one between us." I held my breath trying not to cry.
I saw out of the corner of my eye Mike slowly walking away.
Jake cupped my face and gave me a kiss. It wasn't a little peck. It was a kiss that I would always remember.
It ended way too soon.
"Don't miss me too much Princess." He smirked but frowned when he looked at me.
I knew I was about to cry.
I smiled through, "Goodbye Jake. I will treasure every memory we made."
He looked like he was going to say something but I walked away.
"I love you." I didn't wait to see if he heard. I knew he did. Before he could call me crazy I walked to Varyyn as we waved goodbye.
I finally broke down crying when we could no longer see the plane.
JAKE
"That girl is something else." I chuckled as we finally got in the air.
I looked over at my best friend who looked nervous.
"Hey what are you thinking kid?" I ask as he looks at everything but me.
"Don't be mad." He mutters in reply.
"Why would I be mad?"
Before he could reply I heard a loud noise from the back.
"Looks like they're happy to go home."
Mike nods as we listen to a few of the kids happily talking.
I start to feel something in the pit of my stomach. My senses are on hyper drive trying to find the danger.
"I'm sorry." Mike whispers.
I hear him loud and I look to him worried. Did he do something? I unbuckle and run to the back.
"You feel it don't you?" Quinn asks me.
Everyone I can tell feels it.
Not a second later my vision goes black as memories flood in my head.
From the beginning arriving on the island to the end boarding the plane just now. To my wife that I left behind.
"Dude my last words were mean." Craig mutters as he runs his hand through his hair.
She whispered she loved me and I thought she was crazy.
I remembered Mike apologizing.
"MIKE!" I scrambled to the cockpit with the group behind me, "You knew! Turn us around!"
I heard others behind me agree. I just wanted my Princess.
He shook his head, "I can't do that. I promised her I'd get you home."
Shaking I stepped closer, "My home is where my Wife is."
He was not budging so I grabbed him and yanked him. The plane dipped.
"You're going to kill us all!" Estela yelled.
Sean pulled me off but I succeeded in getting Mike off so I jumped in the seat.
"I'm taking us back." I grumbled.
My idiotic wife protecting us.
"It should be here." Grace said.
Aleister nodded in agreement, "The island would be right there." He pointed to where we all knew it should be.
"It was barely a few minutes and it's already out of our timeline." Grace told us.
"Jake we have to go."
I didn't want to hear that. "That's my wife down there!"
I got up slowly and let Mike take over. Nothing I could do would bring this Island back.
"I told her I wanted to stay with her. Nothing else mattered."
Quinn pulled me into a hug as I stared at the ocean.
