Num Num Wolowitz

It was the first day of first grade for little N. Michael Wolowitz and he was feeling overwhelmed as he entered his classroom. No it wasn't first day jitters it was what happened on his way down the hall.

"See you later Michael!" Called Mrs. Barnes waving at another boy his age.

"Michael!" Shouted Mr. Conners as he handed another boy his age a brown bag. "Here's your lunch!"

"See you after school Mikee!" Shouted Mikee Evans' brother.

"There you are Mick!" Replied a 6th grader.

"Michael dear I need to see you!" The Principal replied nearby. "Oh and you too Mike!"

"Dr. Mike have you seen Michael the janitor?" A teacher asked Dr. Mike the Principal.

He sighed as he entered his classroom and sat down in the first row. As everyone filed into the room he recognized at least four other Michaels.

"Good morning class!" The teacher, Miss. Michelson, replied. "Quiet please as I call attendance!"

He swallowed nervously as everyone became silent.

"Michael James Adams!" Miss M. called as Michael James raised his hand.

"May I go by MJ please?" He asked and the teacher nodded and wrote it down.

"Michael John Barnes!" Miss M. called as Michael John raised his hand.

"May I go by Moby?" He asked and the teacher nodded and wrote it down.

"Michael Andrew Conners!" Miss M. called as Michael Andrew raised his hand.

"May I go by Mac!" He asked as she wrote it down.

"Um. . . Michelle Drago!" Miss M. replied hesitantly as the boy next to him raised his hand.

"It's actually pronounced like Michael Miss M!" Michelle replied in a slight Italian accent. "And may I go by Drake.

"Michaela Evans!" Miss M. replied as a girl stood up by the window and tied her flannel shirt around her waist.

"May I go by Mikee please?" She asked as the teacher nodded and wrote it down.

"Michael George Fowler!" Miss M. replied sighing as a boy sitting a couple of seats away from him and happened to be his Aunt Amy's nephew, stood up.

"May I go by Georgie please?" He asked as he began to roll up the sleeves to the dress shirt he was wearing.

"Of course!" Miss M. replied as she wrote it down. "Michelle Anne Johnson!"

"May I go by Maisy please?" She asked as Miss M. wrote it down.

"Jordan Rose Michaels!" Miss M. replied as the girl behind him raised her hand.

"Here!" She replied after a second.

"Penelope Michelle Peterson!" Miss M. replied.

"May I go by Mitchie please?" Mitchie replied behind him.

"Oakleigh Rachael Quinn!" Miss M. replied.

"Here!" Oakleigh replied behind him.

"Orlando Robert Quinn!" Miss M. replied.

"May I go by Rocky please!" Rocky replied standing up from next to his twin sister as the teacher wrote it down.

"Michelangelo Stefano!" Miss M. replied.

"May I go by Stevie please?" Stevie replied standing up as the teacher wrote it down.

"Michael Francis Wolfe!" Miss M. replied.

"May I go by Wolfie please?" Wolfie replied as she wrote it down.

"N. Michael. . ." Miss M. began.

"NUM NUM!" N. Michael interrupted practically shouting.

"Excuse me?" Miss M. replied as everyone began giggling.

"I I'm s sorry!" Neil managed to reply softly. "I'd like to go by my first name Neil please!"

"Of course Neil it's okay!" Miss M. replied as she wrote it down.

"Num Num!" A couple of people whispered and giggled behind him. They were immediately silenced when Miss M. cleared her throat and stood up.

"Now class I will not tolerate name calling or bullying of any kind in my classroom!" Miss M. replied as she looked out at all of her students. "Do I make myself clear?"

"Yes Miss Michelson!" Everyone replied in unison.

"Elizabeth Ann Young!" Miss M. replied continuing attendance.

"Here!" Elizabeth replied.

"Mitchell Matthew Zacharias!" Miss M. replied.

"May I go by Zack please?" Zach replied.

"Of course!" Miss M. replied as she wrote it down.

"MICHAEL OVER HERE!" Neil heard his mother shout several hours later from across the lawn right as he walked out the door.

Several people whether they were named Michael or not looked over at his mother.

"Hey Num Num your mom's calling you!" Wolfie exclaimed next to him.

Neil winced at the same time Miss M. cleared her throat.
