A/N: So, as I was riding the 50-foot drop on Splash Mountain, all of a sudden this picture of Gold standing over this coffin pops into my head. His head hung down solemly, arms at his sides. And guess who was in the coffin? None other than Sapphire Birch! Originally, it would have something to do with Silver, but then, I took him out of the picture. Don't worry, Silv! You'll have your turn!
Oh yeah, and sorry for swearing in the summary, but I couldn't find a better word.
Summary: It was his fault. All his fault. If he hadn't persuaded her to come, or if he hadn't even accepted the damned mission, she would still be here, by his side.

Flashback
"Sapphire! Watch out!" Gold shouted desperately, as a raging Hyper Beam shot at the brunette. She barely dodged the attack, the back of her outfit skinned off, as well as some of her skin.
"Ruby won't be too happy about that." Sapphire laughed, dodging more Flamethrowers and Hydro Pumps. All of her Pokemon had been knocked out, and all she could do was dodge the attacks.
"Explotaro! Use Blast Burn on that Venusaur!" Gold commanded angrily, the Volcano Pokemon blasting the Seed Pokemon. Sapphire was down on one knee, breathing heavily, scratched, bruised and burned in some places. She looked extremely weak, barely able to even stand.
"Politaro! Whirlpool on the Charizard!" he shouted again.
"Sapphire!" Gold gasped when he saw another Hyper Beam shot at her. She breathlessly turned around, eyes widening in shock when the saw the beam. Unfortunately, it was too late, and the attack hit her, knocking her over. Gold told his Pokemon to keep attacking as he frantically ran over to the fallen girl. He kneeled beside her, gently caressing her face.
"Sapphire...Sapphire...are you gonna be okay?" he asked, tears already filling his eyes. The brunette held his hand, tears also brimming her eyes.
"Gold...I'll always love you..." she said, silver tear rolling down her cheek, as she breathed her last, closing her sapphire eyes.
"Sapphire...SAPPHIRE!" he cried, as her grip on his hand loosened. Tears escaped from his eyes, as he angrily looked to the evil team that killed his girlfriend.
"TEAM ROCKET! YOU'RE GONNA PAY!" he cried angrily, shaking the tears out of his eyes.
'I'm doing this for you Sapphire...' Gold thought as he swiftly commanded his Pokemon.
Flashback Out
He stood over her casket, one that he requested to be specially made - it was hand-crafted by one of the best artists and his team of Smeargle. It almost completely wiped him out, but he didn't care. He'd just re-battle the Elite 4. Gold stared at her peaceful face, a slight smile on her lips. Hurt stained the boy's eyes once again.
"I destroyed Team Rocket for you Sapphire...it was our ultimate goal...I wouldn't have been able to do it without you..." Gold said to her, tears splaterring all over the glass. He quickly rubbed the tears away when he heard the chapel door open, and many footsteps.
"Gold!" his friends called, seeing their friend grieving. There was Crystal, Silver and Ruby, since Ruby was also Sapphire's friend. Crystal quickly hugged Gold, trying to console him.
"It's going to be okay Gold, it really is." Crystal said.
"No! It's not!" Gold shouted, pushing her away from him, running out of the church, leaving a trail of tears behind him. Ruby approached Sapphire's coffin.
"He really loved you, didn't he?" the boy asked his deceased friend.

Three weeks later, Gold commited suicide due to his severe depression. He had hung himself on the tree next to Sapphire's grave, leaving a note that read:
"I will love her and only her for forever."
