and though i wanted so much more (i guess you'll always be my friend)
Luna told Ginny she couldn't make it. That she had somewhere else she had to be. It was true. But there she sat, off in the shadows, as she watched her love marry someone else.
She didn't doubt Harry's ability to make Ginny happy, not even a little. She could tell from their interactions that they would be happy together.
It wasn't that at all. The only negative feelings tugging at Luna's heart were what-might-have-beens. She'd had her eye on Ginny for a long time. but by the time it finally felt right to tell her, Ginny had already begun going out with harry. Luna tried her hardest to be supportive – Ginny never even saw past the mask her friend wore – but it hurt. All those forced smiles had left Luna feeling more than a little defeated.
Luna wished she had confessed her feelings before it was too late. Perhaps then her what-might-have-beens would have been reality.
But she watched Ginny – her friend, nothing more – pledge her love and give her heart to another. She couldn't mistake Ginny's bright expression for anything other than pure elation, but the cheerful mood and joyful nature of the celebration did not spread to Luna.
