Summary: Before Tus had the chance to turn back time to save Dastan and discover the truth, a secret was revealed in the last few moments of Dastan's life. Then time was turned and Tus was killed. With him, the secret was forgotten.
Notes: In this one-shot, Dastan doesn't tell Tamina that he was going to kill himself. Also the button on the dagger, I didn't know what it was called so its just 'the button'. And Tus is king now right?
Dastan's Suicide
Tus watched in horrid fascination as his younger adopted brother plunged the dagger into his own heart. Dastan's body slowly crumpled to the floor, the dagger suspiciously missing. His breathing was short and shallow, blood poured freely from the open wound. Tus looked to his own hand and found it holding the bloodied dagger Dastan had used to kill himself, somewhere in that moment of confusion Tus had pulled it out from his brother's chest.
"Dastan!" The sudden lost filled cry startled Tus, he turned to confront the source but found himself rudely shoved out of the way by the beautiful, grief stricken Princess Tamina. She knelt by his brother and quickly examined his wound in search for some meagre strand of hope to cling on to. Finding none, Tamina buried her face into Dastan's shoulder and sobbed, not caring that his blood was staining her dress as it seeped through the material.
The king of Persia watched on, still clutching the damned dagger, as Dastan weakly raised his hand and stroked Tamina's cheek. He tried to speak, but barely had the strength left.
"I… love you…" With his final breath, the dead prince's hand dropped to the floor and his eyes stared sightlessly at the ceiling. Tamina wailed and resumed sobbing hysterically. Tus examined the strange dagger and wondered if what Dastan had said was true, by pressing the button could he really reverse time? A steely ring caught Tus' attention and he looked up to see the tip of a sword hovering dangerously close to his neck.
Tamina no longer looked like the beautiful, mysterious woman that had caught his attention; her eyes were red rimmed from crying, her clothes blood soaked and ripped. But the biggest change was her expression, a cross between devastated and extremely pissed off.
"If you don't press that button," She tried to keep her words calm and steady but Tus could still detect and underlying waver, "I swear I will behead you and do it myself." Dastan's sword shook in her hand, pricking his skin and drawing blood. Tus' fingered hovered hesitantly over the button.
"Hurry!" Her hysteria could now clearly be heard through the words she tried to control, "Before it's too late!" However the guards had sensed opportunity and one tackled her to the floor, the sword falling to the ground harmlessly. Defeated, Tamina dropped her head and allowed the guard to restrain her.
Nizam burst in moments later, too late to stop Tus from pressing the button. The king watched in amazement as everything around him reversed and the sand released from the dagger enveloped him. The events slowed to a crawl, Dastan's body rose back onto its feet and the dagger was pulled out. Suddenly, it stopped. Time resumed normal pace but this time Tus stopped his brother from dying.
Dastan looked at him in relief and Tus suddenly realised he had discovered an incriminating secret about his brother: Dastan was in lurve!
Too bad that less than five minutes later, Tus' throat was slit and the secret of what happened when time was reversed was lost forever.
